Physical Engineer – Substations (DataΒ Center)

Salary Range:Β $80KΒ - $100KΒ / yearΒ 
Based on the Denver, Colorado labor market.Β 

Location:Β Lakewood, CO (local/in-office) or full-time remote candidates.Β 

Role Overview:Β Β 

As a Physical Engineer in theΒ DataΒ CenterΒ group, you willΒ be responsible forΒ performing engineering design and analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer. You will support client projects and provide quality deliverables that are on time and within the defined budget.Β 

Essential Responsibilities:Β 

What you will do:Β 

  • Design Engineer:Β Your primary responsibility will beΒ working under a lead engineer to perform substation design tasks. Client interaction will be limited at first but will grow as with your abilities. Delegating and checking drafting to designers as needed.Β 

  • QA / QC work:Β Implement the NEI Quality Assurance Plan.Β CheckΒ the work of designers, drafters, and engineers for overall quality and accuracy.Β 

Additional Responsibilities:Β 

  • Work closely with Team Leads, Phase Mangers (project lead engineers)Β and DesignersΒ on projects within the department.Β 

  • PerformΒ the detailedΒ physical engineering for all aspects of electric power substations including multi-disciplinary coordination.Β 

  • Typical design products might include general arrangements, elevation views, site layout, bill of materials, equipment specifications, bus sizing for ampacity and structural requirements, grounding plan and details, and conduit plan and details.Β 

  • Review submittals for conformance with (owner, client) specifications and design to meet all required codes.Β 

  • PrepareΒ bus ampacity calcs and conduit fill calcsΒ for physical designs.Β 

  • Manage deliverables and deadlines to ensure they are submitted on time for both internal QA/QC deadlines and external deadlines toΒ client.Β 

  • CheckΒ the work of designers, drafters, and engineers for overall quality and accuracy.Β 

  • Perform occasional field inspection and construction supervision services when needed.Β 

  • Ensure that client requirements, specifications, and expectations areΒ being met.Β 

  • Maintain a strong understanding and comprehension of applicable Codes and Standards.Β 

  • Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, undergraduate, and graduate classes asΒ appropriate forΒ advancement and asΒ requiredΒ toΒ maintainΒ quality of work.Β 

  • Complete safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines.Β 

Requirements:Β 

  • Education:Β Bachelor’sΒ degree with a focus inΒ CivilΒ / Structural, MechanicalΒ orΒ ElectricalΒ from an accredited institutionΒ is preferredΒ (Associates acceptable pending relevant experience).Β 

  • Experience:Β 2+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.Β 

  • Licensure:Β FE and pursuing the PEΒ at a later dateΒ is preferredΒ Β 

  • Skills:Β ProficiencyΒ with AutoCAD,Β MathCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. Effective written and oral communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.Β
