Remote Asic Physical Design Engineer information

What does a remote ASIC physical design engineer do?

A Remote ASIC Physical Design Engineer is responsible for transforming circuit designs into physical layouts that can be manufactured as integrated circuits (ICs), specifically Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). Their role includes tasks such as floorplanning, placement, routing, timing analysis, and verifying that the physical design meets performance and power specifications. Working remotely, they collaborate with design and verification teams using specialized EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools to optimize chip layouts for manufacturability and efficiency. Effective communication and expertise in physical design processes are essential for success in this role.

What are some common challenges faced by a remote ASIC physical design engineer, and how can they be addressed?

Remote ASIC Physical Design Engineers often encounter challenges related to communication and collaboration, especially when coordinating with cross-functional teams such as verification, synthesis, and EDA tool support. Time zone differences and limited face-to-face interaction can make it harder to quickly resolve design issues or clarify specifications. To overcome these challenges, engineers should leverage collaborative tools, maintain clear documentation, and proactively schedule regular check-ins with team members. Building strong virtual communication habits helps ensure smooth project execution and timely delivery of design milestones.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote ASIC physical design engineer?

To thrive as a Remote ASIC Physical Design Engineer, you need a strong background in digital logic design, ASIC implementation, and a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with industry-standard EDA tools such as Synopsys, Cadence, or Mentor Graphics, as well as scripting languages like TCL and Python, is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills are vital for effective remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills and qualifications ensure high-quality chip designs, efficient workflow, and seamless teamwork in a distributed environment.

Job description

ASRC Federal Agile Decision Sciences LLC is seeking a Power Platform Software Developer to design, build, and sustain Microsoft Power Platform and Dataverse solutions supporting the U.S. Army's Army Software & Innovation Center (ASIC) under the CECOM SETA Program. This is a hands-on developer role for someone who can model data in Dataverse, migrate legacy data into it cleanly, integrate external systems through APIs, and deliver operational reporting on top of it โ€” turning mission and business needs into well-structured, secure, and maintainable Power Platform solutions.

The developer owns the data layer end to end: designing the Dataverse schema, building repeatable ETL/ELT dataflows, enforcing security and environment access, packaging and deploying solutions through a disciplined ALM process, and building the Power BI semantic models and measures that put the data to work for decision-makers. The role works closely with other developers, subject-matter experts, and mission owners to translate requirements into durable data structures and to keep environments healthy across the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Model data in Dataverse โ€” design tables, relationships, keys, and option sets; produce entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs) and a clear, well-documented schema that reflects mission requirements.
  • Migrate legacy data into Dataverse โ€” profile source systems; map, transform, and load legacy data; and validate the results for completeness and accuracy.
  • Build ETL/ELT pipelines โ€” develop repeatable dataflows using Power Automate, Azure Data Factory (ADF), or comparable tools to ingest, transform, and standardize data.
  • Integrate external systems โ€” work with REST and OData endpoints and build custom connectors to exchange data between Dataverse and other Army/DoD systems.
  • Implement Dataverse security โ€” configure security roles, field-level security, and environment access models to enforce least-privilege access and data protection requirements.
  • Manage solutions and ALM โ€” package and deploy schema and components via managed and unmanaged solutions; maintain a Dev/Test/Prod environment strategy with solution pipelines and version control.
  • Ensure data quality โ€” clean, deduplicate, and validate migrated and operational data, and establish checks that keep it reliable over time.
  • Build Power BI semantic models โ€” design semantic/data models on Dataverse and author DAX measures that support operational and leadership reporting.
  • Translate requirements โ€” convert business and mission needs into concrete data structures, entities, and relationships.
  • Document the solution โ€” maintain ERDs, data dictionaries, migration plans, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Collaborate across teams โ€” partner with developers, SMEs, and mission owners to align solutions with mission outcomes and to support adoption.
Outcomes This Role Enables

When the Power Platform work is done right:

  • Dataverse is modeled cleanly and documented, so new capabilities can be built on a stable, well-understood foundation.
  • Legacy data is migrated accurately and validated, with no loss of fidelity and measurable improvements in data quality.
  • Solutions move through Dev/Test/Prod predictably via managed ALM, reducing deployment risk and rework.
  • Integrations are reliable, secure, and repeatable across Army and DoD systems.
  • Mission owners and leadership get trustworthy operational reporting through Power BI models built directly on Dataverse.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree andย 5 years of relevant software development or data engineering experience, or an additional 4 years of equivalent education/experience in lieu of a degree (one year of education equals one year of experience).
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience developing solutions on theย Microsoft Power Platform, including Dataverse data modeling (tables, relationships, keys, option sets) and Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) development.
  • Experience withย data migration, including profiling, mapping, transforming, and loading legacy data into Dataverse, as well as data quality activities such as cleansing, deduplication, and validation.
  • Experience buildingย ETL/ELT dataflows using Power Automate, Azure Data Factory, or comparable tools.
  • Experience integrating systems throughย REST/OData APIs and custom connectors.
  • Working knowledge ofย Dataverse security, including security roles, field-level security, and environment access models.
  • Experience withย Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), including managed and unmanaged solutions, Dev/Test/Production environment strategies, and solution deployment pipelines.
  • Strong ability to translate business and mission requirements into scalable data structures and produce technical documentation, including ERDs, data dictionaries, and migration plans.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with developers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and mission stakeholders.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft certifications such as PL-400 (Power Platform Developer), PL-200 (Power Platform Functional Consultant), or PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst).
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, or broader Azure data services.
  • Familiarity with canvas/model-driven apps, Power Apps, and the wider Power Platform ecosystem.
  • Experience with source control and CI/CD for Power Platform (e.g., Power Platform pipelines, Azure DevOps, or GitHub).
  • Familiarity with U.S. Army / DoD programs, terminology, and data environments (CECOM / ASIC experience a plus).
  • Experience supporting Agile / DevSecOps delivery teams.
  • Experience buildingย Power BI semantic models on Dataverse.
  • Experience authoringย DAX measures for operational dashboards and reporting.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale Microsoft Power Platform implementations in government or highly regulated environments.
Security Clearance & Eligibility

An active U.S. Department of Defense Secret clearance is required for this position. U.S. citizenship is required for access to Army systems and facilities. Final clearance and eligibility requirements will be confirmed against the governing task order and verified during the hiring process.
