What is a remote art writer?

A Remote Art Writer is a professional who creates written content about art, artists, exhibitions, and art history, working primarily from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home. They may write articles, reviews, essays, or catalog descriptions for digital publications, magazines, museums, or galleries. Remote Art Writers typically conduct research, interview artists, and analyze artworks to produce insightful and engaging content for a wide audience. This role requires strong writing skills, a deep understanding of art, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote art writer?

To thrive as a Remote Art Writer, you need a strong background in art history or criticism, excellent writing skills, and often a relevant degree in journalism, English, or art. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and digital publishing platforms is typically required. Strong research abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work independently help set standout writers apart in this role. These skills ensure compelling, accurate, and timely art-related content that engages readers and meets publication standards in a remote work environment.

How does a remote art writer typically collaborate with editors and artists while working offsite?

Remote Art Writers frequently use digital communication tools such as email, project management platforms, and video calls to stay connected with editors and artists. Regular check-ins and feedback sessions are common to ensure alignment on article topics, deadlines, and editorial standards. Collaboration often involves sharing drafts for review, discussing visual content needs, and participating in virtual brainstorming sessions. This remote workflow encourages flexibility but requires strong self-management and proactive communication to ensure smooth teamwork.

Job description

About Social Driver:

Social Driver is a digital agency with the strategies, ideas, creative, and technology to connect with people today, across websites, social media, branding, marketing, advocacy, and more. Our vision is to be the trusted agency partner for our clients. Our company mantra captures our mission, culture, and values: “We believe the future is bright, all progress is social, and the drivers make history.” We aim to provide our clients with digital solutions that help them meet their goals and, through that work, make an impact for a brighter future.

About this Position:

As an Art Director at Social Driver, you will lead the visual direction and creative execution of content across social platforms and digital channels. This role is designed for a digitally native creative who understands how to translate brand narratives into compelling, platform-specific experiences that drive engagement, growth, and impact.

You will guide the development of scroll-stopping creative across social media, paid campaigns, and digital ecosystems, partnering closely with strategists, content leads, and motion designers to bring ideas to life in ways that resonate with modern audiences. The ideal candidate blends strong visual instincts with a deep understanding of platform behaviors, trends, and performance-driven creative.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can conceptualize at a high level, execute when needed, and elevate the work across fast-moving, content-driven environments.

Objectives & Responsibilities:

  • Creative Leadership: Lead the conceptualization and execution of social-first creative across platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and emerging channels, ensuring content is engaging, culturally relevant, and optimized for each environment.
  • Digital Campaign Direction: Own the visual direction for integrated digital campaigns, including paid media, organic social, and email—ensuring consistency and cohesion across all touchpoints.
  • Platform & Performance Awareness: Design with performance in mind, understanding what drives engagement, conversion, and audience behavior across platforms, and iterating creative based on insights and results.
  • Hands-On Execution: Contribute directly to design work when needed, creating high-quality assets including social graphics, motion concepts, storyboards, and digital layouts that align with brand and campaign goals.
  • Art Direction: Provide visual direction, review, and approval for design deliverables. Work with designers to achieve high standards for visual excellence across all outputs, ensuring brand consistency while also pushing creative boundaries and achieving strategic goals.
  • Project Oversight: Oversee execution of design projects, from initial research and concept development through final delivery, ensuring high-quality, on-time deliverables that exceed client expectations.
  • Client Collaboration: Engage directly with clients to understand their business objectives, present creative concepts, and incorporate feedback to refine and enhance design solutions.
  • Innovative Thinking: Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in design to drive continuous innovation and maintain Social Driver’s competitive edge.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in graphic design or a related field, with a proven track record of leading successful design projects and teams.
  • Technical Skills: Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma.
  • Creative Abilities: A robust portfolio demonstrating a breadth of design work, showcasing creativity, strategic thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and a refined aesthetic sense.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts, strategies, and rationale effectively to clients and team members.
  • Time Management: Proven ability to manage complex projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, remote work environment while maintaining high standards of quality and creativity.
  • Remote Work: Self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of working independently while thriving in a collaborative, remote team environment.
