A. Fantis School is seeking a working artist and skilled educator to steward one of Brooklyn's most distinctive K–8 art programs. THE PROGRAM The Hellenic Studies Department
The art program at A. Fantis is the product of years of intentional development:
 

• A full scope and sequence from PreK3 through 8th grade across multiple media
• An annual school-wide Art Exhibition showcasing student work across disciplines
• Regular field trips to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, integrated with classroom curriculum
• Student selections in the international Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and international holiday art competitions.
• A dedicated program space with established supplies, materials, and equipment
• Collaborative colleagues who value the arts as core — not extracurricular

THE HELLENIC STUDIES DEPARTMENT

• A. Fantis is unique among New York independent schools in its Hellenic Studies Department — a collaborative faculty home shared by Greek language teachers, the Music & Performing Arts teacher, and the Art Teacher. The department produces three major performances annually: celebrations of Greek Independence Day (March 25), Ohi Day (October 28), and a Christmas Concert. These are not assemblies — they are school-wide productions that draw on the full creative range of the department.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Teach art to PreK3–Grade 8 students, 3 days per week
• Maintain and evolve the existing scope and sequence across grade levels
• Plan and execute the annual Art Exhibition
• Lead museum field trips and integrate museum experiences into studio work
• Prepare and submit student work for juried competitions and exhibitions
• Manage studio inventory and supply ordering
• Collaborate with classroom teachers on cross-disciplinary projects
• Engage in professional development and peer observation culture
• Contribute to fulfilling our mission: educating the whole child — mind, body, and spirit
• Greek-language skills a plus, but not required

EXTENDED OPPORTUNITIES

• Art Club (After School)  ·  1 session per week at $90/hour
• Lead advanced studio work with motivated students in smaller groups
• Substitute Teaching  ·  1–2 days per week
• Additional $5,000$11,000 annually
• Extended Day Program  ·  Up to 2 days weekly
• $125 per day
• Summer & Break Camps  ·  Up to 60 days annually
• $20$25 per hour

COMPENSATION AT A GLANCE
Base Salary (3 days/week):  $30,000 – $40,000
Art Club (1x weekly @ $90/hr):  + $3,000
Substitute Teaching (1-2 days weekly):  + $4,500 – $9,000
Extended Day (1-2 days weekly @$125/day):  + $4,000 – $8,000
Camps:  + $2,000 – $4,000
 Total Annual Potential:  $44,000 – $64,000+
