A Remote Architectural Project Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and coordinating architectural projects from a remote location, rather than working on-site. They manage project timelines, budgets, and communication between clients, architects, and contractors, using digital tools to collaborate effectively. Their role often includes ensuring that designs meet regulatory standards, managing virtual teams, and solving project issues as they arise. Remote Architectural Project Managers leverage technology to monitor progress, share updates, and maintain project documentation, enabling them to lead projects efficiently from anywhere.

How does a remote architectural project manager effectively coordinate with clients and design teams across different time zones?

As a Remote Architectural Project Manager, coordinating with clients and multidisciplinary design teams across various time zones requires strong organizational and communication skills. You’ll typically use collaborative platforms like BIM software, cloud-based document sharing, and video conferencing to ensure everyone stays aligned on project goals and timelines. Scheduling regular check-ins and setting clear expectations for response times helps manage workflow and keeps projects on track. Flexibility and proactive planning are key to addressing challenges that arise from asynchronous communication, ensuring that project milestones are met smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote architectural project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Architectural Project Manager, you need a solid background in architecture, project management expertise, and typically a relevant degree and professional licensure (such as an architect’s license or PMP certification). Familiarity with CAD/BIM software (like AutoCAD or Revit), project management tools (such as Asana or Microsoft Project), and virtual collaboration platforms is essential. Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills help you coordinate distributed teams and manage client expectations. These skills ensure that complex projects are delivered efficiently, within scope, and to a high standard despite remote collaboration challenges.

Job description

Senior Project Manager, COA-ICON- US Remote (East Coast)

ICON is a global healthcare intelligence and clinical research organisation united by a mission to bring new medicines and treatments to patients faster.

As a values-driven organisation, integrity, collaboration, agility, and inclusion are at the heart of how we work and interact with each other, customers, patients and suppliers.

Title: Senior Project Manager, COA

Location: Remote - USA (East Coast)

What you will do: As a Senior Project Manager within Patient Centered Solutions and Language Services at ICON, you will lead the delivery of clinical outcome assessment localization and electronic Clinical Outcome Assessment programs across multiple clinical studies. Serving as an embedded extension of a key pharmaceutical client's team, you will manage projects from initial intake through final delivery. You will coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, multilingual content, copyright and licensing activities, eCOA migrations, quality reviews, and project documentation. You will also help improve operational processes, reduce delivery timelines, and support the evaluation of new automation technologies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary operational contact for incoming localization and eCOA requests, coordinating project kickoffs with study teams and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage project plans, requirements, timelines, deliverables, risks, and resource needs across multiple concurrent global and local studies.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration among client stakeholders, study teams, localization specialists, technology teams, copyright holders, vendors, and other internal and external partners.
  • Assess the availability and readiness of questionnaires, translations, licenses, and supporting assets before translation and eCOA migration activities begin.
  • Coordinate copyright licensing, source-content review, translation preparation, multilingual deliverables, content modifications, and version-management activities.
  • Oversee automation-enabled eCOA questionnaire migrations and evaluate outputs for linguistic, formatting, technical, and content-readiness issues.
  • Identify and document migration defects, support root-cause analysis, recommend corrective actions, and provide structured feedback to technology teams.
  • Monitor project quality, timelines, review cycles, productivity, and stakeholder satisfaction through dashboards and status reporting.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, version-controlled, and audit-ready project documentation within approved SharePoint and document-management systems.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce bottlenecks, improve content reuse, shorten migration timelines, reduce manual effort, and standardize processes.
  • Support the validation and implementation of automation, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies used in localization and eCOA delivery.
  • Provide project leadership and guidance to cross-functional contributors while promoting quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Languages, Translation, Clinical Research, Healthcare Administration, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in clinical localization, clinical operations, clinical technology, or project management within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO, or related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects, timelines, risks, deliverables, and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced, matrix environment.
  • Strong understanding of multilingual content development, translation, and localization workflows.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder-management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience using SharePoint, document-management systems, collaboration platforms, and project-tracking tools.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready project documentation.
  • Direct experience with Clinical Outcome Assessments, electronic Clinical Outcome Assessments, and questionnaire migration projects is highly preferred.
  • Experience with copyright licensing, content acquisition, translation preparation, and version-management processes is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with eCOA platforms, localization technologies, translation-management systems, or comparable clinical technologies is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing migration outputs, documenting defects, performing root-cause analysis, or supporting quality-validation activities is preferred.
  • Experience supporting automation, artificial intelligence, or clinical-technology pilot programs is preferred.
  • PMP or an equivalent project-management certification is preferred.

Employment with ICON is contingent upon having the legal right to work in the country where the role is based.
