The role works closely with Finance leadership, Contracts, and Program Management to ensure financial integrity across government contracts.

  • Perform monthly account reconciliations, research discrepancies, and resolve issues
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy at the contract and company level
  • Track and analyze direct, indirect, and unallowable costs in accordance with FAR
  • Support accounting for cost‑plus, T&M, and fixed‑price contracts
  • Maintain detailed supporting documentation for audits and reporting

  • Serve as the accounting point of contact for audit requests and financial inquiries
  • Identify and resolve compliance issues or control gaps
Indirect Rates & Financial Reporting
  • Support development, maintenance, and monitoring of indirect cost rates
  • Assist with rate analyses and variance explanations
  • Ensure consistent application of allocation methodologies
  • Coordinate with Finance leadership on forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting related to contract performance
Process Ownership & Improvement
  • Own and document accounting policies, procedures, and work instructions specific to GovCon operations
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting efficiency, accuracy, and audit readiness
  • Support accounting system implementations or enhancements (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar GovCon ERPs)
  • Ensure accounting processes scale appropriately for a mid‑sized GovCon business with growing contract volume
Functional Guidance (Limited Supervision)
  • Provide technical guidance and review of accounting work prepared by staff
  • Coordinate accounting activities to meet reporting deadlines
  • Provide input on performance, training, and process adherence as needed
  • This role emphasizes functional accountability and review, not extensive people management

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, or
  • Master's degree with 6–8 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a government contracting accounting environment
  • Strong familiarity with FAR, indirect rates, and DCAA expectations
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred, but not required

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA‑eligible
  • Experience working in a mid‑sized GovCon organization
  • Hands‑on experience with GovCon ERPs (e.g., Costpoint, Unanet)
  • Experience supporting incurred cost submissions and audits

Key Skills & Competencies
  • Strong technical accounting and GovCon regulatory knowledge
  • High attention to detail and documentation discipline
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a compliance‑driven environment
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort serving as the functional owner and reviewer of accounting activities
