JOB OVERVIEW: NATIONAL ACCOUNT MANAGER - UTILITY VEGETATION MANAGEMENT (UVM)

The National Account Manager (UVM) for Federal and Emergency Response contracts is responsible for driving revenue growth, strengthening strategic customer relationships, and supporting the successful delivery of federal and state vegetation management services within complex public-sector and large-scale service markets across the United States. This position drives business development, account management, contract acquisition, and customer engagement efforts while serving as a key liaison between customers, operational leadership, and executive management.


The National Account Manager identifies, qualifies, and pursues opportunities that align with ArborWorks' core service offerings, with a primary focus on government-funded, natural resource, emergency response, land management, and infrastructure-related programs. The role oversees the development of strategic customer relationships, drives competitive pricing efforts, and helps position ArborWorks for long-term success within federal and state contracting environments. While primarily focused on public-sector opportunities, the position maintains the flexibility to support emerging markets and strategic growth initiatives as business needs evolve.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Business Development:

  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities in the federal and state government aligned with ArborWorks' capabilities, growth objectives, and strategic priorities.
  • Focus on growing ArborWorks presence in emergency response and wildfire support and mitigation efforts throughout the country.
  • Develop and execute account growth strategies to expand market presence and strengthen long-term customer partnerships.
  • Develop competitive pricing for opportunities.
  • Monitor industry trends, procurement opportunities, funding initiatives, regulatory developments, and market conditions to identify business opportunities and potential risks.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, decision-makers, consultants, industry partners, and procurement professionals.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic sales pipeline and opportunity forecast.
  • Represent ArborWorks at conferences, trade associations, customer meetings, networking events, and industry functions.
  • Support long-range planning efforts and strategic market expansion initiatives.

 

Federal Contracting & Strategic Program Development:

  • Lead business development efforts related to federal, state, municipal, and other public-sector contracting opportunities.
  • Monitor procurement forecasts, contracting vehicles, funding programs, agency initiatives, and market intelligence to identify potential opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contracting officers, program managers, procurement personnel, natural resource professionals, emergency management stakeholders, and industry partners.
  • Lead capture planning activities from opportunity identification through contract award.
  • Evaluate solicitations, statements of work, technical requirements, performance objectives, and contract terms to determine strategic fit and project viability.
  • Coordinate internal resources to develop compliant, competitive, and high-quality proposal submissions.
  • Support proposal development activities including opportunity qualification, pricing strategy, technical reviews, risk assessments, and submission processes.
  • Assist with contract negotiations, onboarding activities, and transition planning for awarded contracts.
  • Support development and execution of opportunities related to vegetation management, wildfire mitigation, fuels reduction, emergency response, disaster recovery, environmental stewardship, infrastructure protection, and other strategic service programs.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable procurement processes, contractual requirements, and industry best practices.

 

Account Management & Customer Relations:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned national accounts and strategic customers.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of customer goals, operational needs, contractual expectations, and business challenges.
  • Build trusted customer relationships that promote long-term retention and recurring business opportunities.
  • Conduct customer meetings, program reviews, site visits, performance discussions, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure customer expectations are clearly communicated and effectively supported.
  • Proactively address customer concerns and facilitate timely resolution of issues.
  • Identify opportunities to expand customer relationships and enhance service delivery.
  • Promote a customer-focused culture that supports ArborWorks' commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

 

Proposal Development & Contract Acquisition:

  • Review Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), Statements of Work (SOWs), task orders, contracts, and technical requirements to evaluate opportunities.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks, and customer site assessments.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Estimating teams to define appropriate staffing, equipment, production assumptions, and pricing strategies.
  • Assist in the development of cost models, budgets, and pricing structures for competitive bid submissions.
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain pricing and scope information as required.
  • Support the preparation, review, and submission of proposals, estimates, and bid packages.
  • Participate in internal bid reviews and provide recommendations regarding project viability, risks, and opportunities.

 

Operational Coordination & Program Support:

  • Support successful contract implementation by coordinating communication between customers and operational teams.
  • Ensure customer expectations, project scope, schedule requirements, and deliverables are clearly communicated and documented.
  • Participate in customer meetings, contract reviews, and performance discussions throughout project execution.
  • Assist Operations with contract modifications, change order development, and customer requests as needed.
  • Facilitate resolution of customer concerns while maintaining strong business relationships.
  • Promote collaboration between field operations and customers to ensure service excellence and contract compliance.
  • Support emergency response and disaster recovery mobilization efforts when required.
  • Maintain alignment between customer expectations, operational performance, safety objectives, and financial goals.

 

Compliance & Business Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, opportunities, and contract information.
  • Develop forecasts, territory plans, account strategies, and pipeline reports.
  • Track and report key performance indicators related to business development and customer retention efforts.
  • Analyze business opportunities and market conditions to support strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain organized documentation of bids, contracts, proposals, and customer communications for future reference.

 

Industry Representation:

  • Represent ArborWorks professionally at industry conferences, trade shows, customer events, and association meetings.
  • Promote ArborWorks’ safety culture, operational capabilities, and service offerings throughout the assigned territory.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Emergency Management, Construction Management, or related field experience is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in utility vegetation management, forestry, natural resources, infrastructure services, environmental services, account management, business development, or a related industry.
  • Experience supporting vegetation management, forestry, wildfire mitigation, emergency response, natural resource management, environmental services, or infrastructure service programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing strategic customer relationships and accounts.
  • Experience supporting proposal development, contract acquisition, capture management, and business growth initiatives.
  • Experience working with federal, state, municipal, utility, cooperative, or other public-sector customers strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting government procurement processes, contract acquisition efforts, proposal development, or strategic capture planning strongly preferred.
