Job description

Job Title: Fuel Handling System Design Engineer Location: Bellevue, WA Type: Contract Compensation: $52.00 - $85.00 Onsite work model, remote work model available for exceptionally qualified non-local candidates.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of nuclear fuel handling systems and fuel handling sub-systems from requirements through final design review.
  • Develop analyses such as thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, and others, integrating results into plant design delivery.
  • Provide design direction related to thermal and fluid design requirements.
  • Identify and ensure the effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems (e.g., ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA).
  • Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system design.
  • Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities and overall plant design delivery.
  • Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages, including P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings.
  • Coordinate with design disciplines to develop plant design information and specify system performance criteria.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, ensuring delivery of data and conducting technical reviews.
  • Establish and maintain system requirements and specifications, such as Engineering Design Specifications for major equipment.
  • Propose and initiate testing programs for plant system qualification and oversee test execution and evaluation.
  • Generate design packages, including calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Develop and review technical design documents such as System Design Descriptions and Interface Control Documents.
  • Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.
  • Participate in design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are established and refined.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years of direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing complex mechanical systems, structures, and equipment, particularly nuclear fuel handling systems.
  • Experience performing 3D modeling and creating design drawings.
  • High temperature and multi-discipline integration experience highly desired.
  • Thermal/CFD experience highly desired.
  • Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling process systems, or similar high-performance system or equipment design required.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.
  • Self-starter with the ability to coordinate and lead design teams with minimal direction.
  • Ability to manage projects with multiple objectives and resolve conflicts between objectives.
  • Experience working under quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
  • Strong communication skills preferred.
