Pay: $29.00 per hour (Includes a base rate of $28.00 + a $1.00 2nd shift differential)

Position Summary

This Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and responding to facility and manufacturing equipment maintenance & repair. You will also be expected to work with production leadership to improve equipment and system reliability and support continuous improvement efforts. Additionally, you will participate and support the installation of new equipment or systems. Our facility is expanding, which provides the opportunity to be involved in the development of maintenance department process and procedure development. This is a permanent full-time position. In order to help ensure all aspects of this position are performed as expected, measurable metrics will be provided along with regularly scheduled performance reviews. This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Maintenance & Facilities Projects.

  • Schedule: 2nd Shift | Mon – Fri (6:00 PM – 2:30 AM)

  • Flexibility: Candidates must be open to schedule adjustments based on operational needs.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Comfortable learning new equipment and mechanical systems and troubleshooting under pressure
  • Knowledge of the practical applications of engineering and systems technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of food manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, glycol, and hydraulic systems as well as natural gas, liquid propane, boilers, refrigeration, and PLC (Programmable Logic Controls) applications.
  • Fabrications skills including sheet metal, welding (stainless and sanitary - a bonus)
  • Competent in plumbing systems and installation
  • Competent in industrial refrigeration (Freon based) - a bonus
  • Understanding of food safety, workplace safety, and food quality standards is strongly preferred
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime, extended shifts, weekends, and schedule adjustments as required to support business operations.
General Duties/Responsibilities
  • Properly prepare and maintain all production equipment and facility systems to assure peak operational efficiency is maintained
  • Work with other maintenance technicians in a team environment
  • Troubleshoot equipment and system issues (electrical, mechanical and pneumatic) in real-time as required
  • Provide hands-on support with solving daily production issues as well as supporting continuous improvement processes with recommend solutions to address capacity, cost and quality
  • Execute minor construction projects needed to address facility or production equipment modifications
  • Assist with the preventative maintenance program for all equipment and systems, including assisting in the management of spare parts inventory ordering
  • Evaluate manufacturing performance data and make recommendations for addressing systemic issues
  • Must work in a safe manner and comply with all health, safety, security and emergency requirements. Assess workplace safety and coordinates with the management team to remedy any recognize potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Comply with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), and any/all established processes, whether established by their manager, by the company or by law. Works with the management team to resolve any known conditions potentially affecting food safety or product quality.
  • Demonstrate desired traits of a leader within the company including calm, kind, positive can-do attitude
  • Assist and teach packaging technicians basic preventative maintenance procedures and adjustments to settings to improve efficiency.
  • Partner with production line leads to meet production schedules, including troubleshooting and identification of root cause issues and corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assist during equipment tear down, sanitation and reassembly process to ensure proper execution of procedures and minimization of downtime or changeover process time
  • Identify process improvements resulting in cost savings, efficiency improvements, and quality or safety improvements
  • Communicate and coordinate with outside vendors as needed
  • Assist other areas of production or equipment operators as needed
  • Maintain proper documentation and record keeping, including data entry in computer system and completion of preventative maintenance assignments
  • Communicate regularly with team in regards to work accomplished
  • Responsible for facility maintenance and ensuring safe working conditions
Food Safety and Quality Responsibilities
  • Follow GMP policy when in the production facility and encourage your team to do the same.
  • Understand our SQF policies relating to pest control, visitors, allergen management, and cleaning and sanitation.
  • Demonstrate awareness of Management's Commitment to SQF and work towards Food Safety and Quality and help the company meet this commitment.
  • If there is a problem that involves food quality and safety, report to the Quality Assurance Manager Manager so that the CAPA (corrective action, preventative action) log may be filled out, the situation be investigated, and resolved with the goal of continuous improvement of food quality and safety.
Education and Experience
  • 3 years previous maintenance technician or maintenance mechanic experience, preferably in a food or beverage manufacturing facility or similar manufacturing environment. Technical degree in the Industrial field is a bonus.
  • Experienced in the operation of a forklift, pallet jack, Genie boom and scissor lift as well as other rental equipment typically used in construction of maintenance situations
  • Prior exposure or certifications in GMP and HACCP application. Familiarity with SQF policies a bonus
  • Working knowledge in industrial electricity. Single phase (110 - 220v) 3-phase (208-480v)
