Job description

Overview

The Senior Project Manager, Construction is responsible for leading the delivery of new store builds, remodels, relocations, and special construction initiatives across a multi-site retail portfolio. This role manages all phases of the construction process, partnering with internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate combines strong construction expertise, project leadership, vendor management, and stakeholder communication skills to successfully execute complex retail development projects.

Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of new store construction, remodels, relocations, and special projects across multiple locations
  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, risks, and quality throughout the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate activities across architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, landlords, and internal business partners
  • Oversee project documentation, change management, forecasting, reporting, and project closeout activities
  • Ensure projects are delivered in alignment with operational, financial, and brand objectives
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor project progress, quality, and compliance standards

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, contractors, and external partners
  • Partner with Real Estate, Design, Store Operations, and other cross-functional teams throughout project execution
  • Review lease requirements and coordinate project obligations related to site development and construction activities
  • Negotiate contracts, project scopes, change orders, and vendor agreements as needed
  • Manage customer expectations through proactive communication and problem resolution

Financial & Operational Management

  • Develop, manage, and track project budgets, forecasts, payment applications, and capital expenditures
  • Review and approve project costs, change orders, and contractor invoices
  • Analyze project risks and develop mitigation strategies to support budget and schedule adherence
  • Identify value engineering opportunities that improve project outcomes while controlling costs
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities through reporting and trend analysis

Safety, Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and construction standards
  • Oversee adherence to site-specific safety plans and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct or support site audits, safety reviews, and issue resolution efforts
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance project delivery, operational efficiency, and customer service
  • Develop and implement best practices, workflows, and project management standards

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8+ years of progressive construction project management experience, preferably within retail development environments
  • Proven experience managing new builds, remodels, renovations, and multi-site construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, project delivery processes, budgeting, scheduling, and contract administration
  • Experience managing multiple vendors, contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders simultaneously
  • Knowledge of building codes, permitting processes, and construction compliance requirements
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing project budgets, forecasts, and change orders
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites as required

Preferred

  • Experience within retail, commercial, or multi-site development environments
  • PMP, CCM, LEED AP, or similar professional certifications
  • Experience with construction management platforms such as Procore, Autodesk BIM 360, or similar tools
  • Experience with project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or Primavera
  • Knowledge of both union and non-union construction environments
  • Experience identifying value engineering opportunities and driving process improvements across construction programs
