Job description

Position Summary

Reliable Poultry is seeking a dependable and skilled Generator Service Technician to install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair generator systems at customer locations. This position is responsible for ensuring generators and related equipment remain safe, reliable, and operational.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, be comfortable working independently in the field, and provide professional service to our customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine service on generators.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical generator issues.
  • Troubleshoot generator starting, charging, fuel, cooling, and electrical systems.
  • Perform oil changes, filter changes, battery testing, and other scheduled maintenance.
  • Inspect generators and related equipment for proper operation and safety.
  • Test generators under load and verify proper operation after repairs.
  • Assist with installation, startup, and commissioning of new generator systems.
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches and associated generator controls.
  • Respond to emergency and after-hours service calls as needed.
  • Travel to poultry farms, customer facilities, and other job sites throughout Reliable Poultry’s service area.
  • Communicate with customers regarding equipment issues, repairs, and recommended maintenance.
  • Accurately document service calls, repairs, parts used, and work completed.
  • Maintain an organized and properly stocked service vehicle.
  • Properly care for company-provided tools, equipment, vehicles, credit cards, and other company property.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and applicable electrical and equipment safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with Service Management and other Reliable Poultry departments when additional assistance or parts are needed.
  • Complete assigned service calls in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous generator, electrical, diesel, automotive, agricultural equipment, or mechanical service experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Basic understanding of engines, batteries, charging systems, fuel systems, and electrical components.
  • Generator-specific experience is preferred but training may be provided to the right candidate.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Must be dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple service calls.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be able to operate a company service vehicle safely.
  • Willingness to travel within the company’s service territory.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service calls as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, ladders, and other service equipment.
  • Ability to work around poultry farms, agricultural facilities, generators, engines, and electrical equipment.

Work Environment

This is primarily a field-based position. The Generator Service Technician will regularly travel to customer locations and poultry facilities. Work may be performed outdoors, in generator enclosures, mechanical areas, and other agricultural or industrial environments.

The position may require early mornings, extended hours, overnight travel, weekends, or after-hours emergency calls depending on customer and operational needs.
