Reliability Program Manager information

What is a reliability program manager?

A Reliability Program Manager is a professional responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that ensure the dependability and optimal performance of systems, equipment, or processes within an organization. They analyze data, identify potential risks, and create strategies to minimize downtime and improve reliability. Their role often involves cross-functional collaboration, continuous improvement initiatives, and adherence to industry standards and best practices. Reliability Program Managers are commonly found in sectors like manufacturing, energy, aerospace, and technology.

How does a reliability program manager typically collaborate with engineering and operations teams to drive improvements?

A Reliability Program Manager works closely with both engineering and operations teams to identify areas where equipment or process reliability can be enhanced. This involves facilitating cross-functional meetings, analyzing failure data, and aligning improvement initiatives with production goals. The manager often acts as a bridge, translating technical findings into actionable plans that operations can implement. Effective communication and the ability to prioritize projects based on impact and resource availability are key to successful collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a reliability program manager, and why are they important?

A Reliability Program Manager typically needs a solid background in engineering, reliability analysis, and project management, often supported by a relevant degree and certifications like Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE). Familiarity with reliability modeling software, root cause analysis tools, and asset management systems is common in the role. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are crucial for effectively coordinating teams and driving reliability initiatives. These skills are essential to ensure equipment uptime, reduce operational risks, and optimize organizational performance.

What is the difference between Reliability Program Manager vs Maintenance Engineer?

AspectReliability Program ManagerMaintenance Engineer

CertificationsReliability certifications (e.g., RCM, RCPE) often preferredMechanical or electrical engineering degrees, maintenance certifications
Work EnvironmentOffice-based planning, cross-department collaborationFieldwork, plant or facility maintenance
Industry UsageCommon in manufacturing, energy, and industrial sectorsCommon in manufacturing, facilities management, and industrial plants

The Reliability Program Manager focuses on strategic reliability initiatives to prevent failures, while Maintenance Engineers handle hands-on repair and maintenance tasks. Both roles are essential for operational efficiency but differ in scope and responsibilities.

Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Program Manager Wi-Fi/CPE Connectivity in Englewood, CO.
Summary:
This individual will be responsible for driving large-scale technical programs from initial planning and discovery through development, testing, deployment, and delivery. The role will work across numerous engineering teams and workstreams, requiring someone who can bring structure to highly complex initiatives, proactively identify dependencies and risks, and keep teams aligned toward common delivery goals.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter and strong delivery driver who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced engineering environment with evolving priorities. This person must be technically savvy enough to understand complex software, networking, device, and connectivity initiatives while possessing the program leadership skills to coordinate delivery across a large number of teams.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead complex technical programs and projects across WiFi, connectivity, CPE, software, and engineering organizations
* Own program delivery from inception and requirements through development, testing, deployment, and production delivery
* Create and drive detailed program and project plans involving potentially 20-30 teams and/or workstreams
* Coordinate dependencies across engineering, product, architecture, testing, operations, and other technical teams
* Establish program roadmaps, milestones, schedules, success metrics, and delivery expectations
* Track progress against program plans and proactively identify risks, issues, dependencies, and potential delivery impacts
* Drive issues to resolution and ensure appropriate ownership and accountability across workstreams
* Provide clear, concise program status and delivery reporting to working teams, management, directors, and senior leadership
* Facilitate communication and coordination across multiple projects and technical teams
REQUIREMENTS:
* 5-10+ years of Technical Program Management, Program Management, Technical Project Management, or related delivery experience within a technology organization
* Experience with RDK or similar device/software platforms
* Expert-level understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements, development, testing, deployment, and production delivery
* Strong stakeholder management, collaboration, facilitation, and organizational skills
* Strong technical aptitude and ability to understand complex engineering concepts, architectures, and dependencies
* Knowledge of or exposure to routers, modems, Wi-Fi extenders, or other connected-device technologies
* Exposure to streaming telemetry, network reliability, device performance, or connectivity optimization initiatives
* Ability to operate independently and proactively in a fast-paced, constantly evolving engineering environment
* Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process and delivery improvements rather than simply maintaining existing processes
This role will support current and emerging initiatives across the WiFi/CPE connectivity portfolio, which may include:
* Wi-Fi optimization
* Next-generation Wi-Fi technologies, including early-stage Wi-Fi 8 initiatives
* Wi-Fi extenders and related connectivity solutions
* Router and modem technology
* CPE software and platform initiatives
* RDK-based platforms and architecture
* Streaming telemetry
* Network and device reliability
* Customer connectivity and network performance
* Technical enablement, architecture, and discovery initiatives
