Summary

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving profitable growth for DSV Road through the acquisition of new customers, reactivation of dormant accounts, and development of customer relationships within the small- and medium-sized customer segment. This role promotes DSV's road transportation, freight brokerage, and logistics solutions, identifies new business opportunities, develops a pipeline of prospective customers, and converts opportunities into active, revenue-generating accounts through consultative selling and relationship management.

The Business Development Manager works closely with Pricing, Operations, and Sales Support teams to develop transportation and logistics solutions that align with customer needs and business objectives. The position is responsible for managing customer relationships throughout the sales process, supporting successful onboarding, and creating long-term customer value through responsive service, effective communication, and ongoing business development efforts.

This role requires strong relationship-building skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to prioritize opportunities and sales activities to achieve revenue growth and customer acquisition objectives within the small- and medium-sized customer segment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the small- and medium-sized customer segment and assigned territories.
  • Acquire new customers through prospecting, networking, referrals, industry engagement, and relationship-building activities.
  • Reactivate inactive or dormant customer accounts and develop strategies to increase customer engagement and revenue generation.
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of small- and medium-sized customer accounts to support revenue growth, customer retention, and long-term business development objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective customers and business opportunities.
  • Convert qualified opportunities into active, revenue-generating customer accounts.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing and prospective customer accounts.
  • Meet or exceed assigned revenue, customer acquisition, and business growth objectives.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers.
  • Conduct customer meetings and discussions to understand transportation needs, business challenges, and service requirements.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned customer opportunities throughout the sales process.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers to support relationship development and long-term account growth.
  • Support customer retention efforts by identifying opportunities to strengthen customer partnerships and increase service utilization.

Sales Execution & Solution Development

  • Assess customer transportation requirements and collaborate with internal operations teams to develop effective transportation and logistics solutions.

  • Participate in customer discussions regarding transportation services, pricing proposals, and business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Pricing, Operations, and Sales Support teams to develop competitive and customer-focused solutions.
  • Prepare and present customer proposals, service recommendations, and sales presentations.
  • Support successful customer onboarding and implementation activities to promote a positive customer experience and repeat business.

Market & Opportunity Management

  • Monitor market activity, customer trends, and competitive information to identify business development opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, pipeline, and forecast information within company CRM systems.
  • Track sales performance and opportunity progression to support achievement of business objectives.
  • Provide updates, forecasts, and reports regarding business development activities and sales performance.
  • Prioritize customer opportunities and sales activities to maximize effectiveness and revenue growth.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Sales, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of sales, business development, commercial, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience building customer relationships and supporting revenue growth initiatives preferred.
  • Experience working in a KPI-driven, goal-oriented, or customer-focused environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (Microsoft Dynamics or similar) and pipeline management tools preferred.
  • Transportation and logistics industry experience preferred.
  • Domestic freight brokerage or related transportation experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a professional office and customer-facing environment. The Business Development Manager works in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment requiring effective prioritization, relationship management, and collaboration across multiple functions. For this position, the expected base pay range is $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 Annual.
