REIT Tax Associate Attorney – Investment Funds Group
Locations: Austin, TX | Chicago, IL | Los Angeles, CA | New York, NY | Palo Alto, CA | San Diego, CA | San Francisco, CA | Washington, DC

Direct Counsel is seeking a Tax Associate Attorney to join the Investment Funds practice of a leading global law firm. This role focuses on partnership tax and subchapter K matters in support of sophisticated asset management and investment fund clients.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on subchapter K partnership tax issues in connection with private investment funds and asset management structures.

  • Support the formation and structuring of investment funds and related vehicles, including REIT-related matters.

  • Provide tax analysis for fund sponsors, investment managers, and institutional investors.

  • Assist with drafting and reviewing partnership agreements and fund documentation from a tax perspective.

  • Collaborate with corporate and investment funds attorneys on transactional matters.

  • Conduct technical tax research and prepare memoranda addressing complex partnership tax issues.

Qualifications
  • 4–6 years of transactional tax experience, with a strong focus on subchapter K partnership tax.

  • Experience gained at a top-tier law firm; Vault 10 firm experience preferred.

  • Background supporting asset management or investment funds practices.

  • Strong academic credentials from a nationally recognized law school.

  • Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.

  • JD from an accredited law school.

  • Active bar admission in the jurisdiction of the office location.

Work Arrangement
  • Hybrid schedule with regular in-office presence.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $260,000 – $365,000, depending on experience, skills, and overall qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is also provided.
