Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Intern, under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist and in accordance with all State and Federal laws, assists with the selection, preparation, distribution, and record keeping of all medications dispensed to inpatients of St. Elizabeth Healthcare. The intern will also be provided opportunities to expand their clinical knowledge by assisting with clinical consultations via hospital protocols; completing medication histories; counseling on anticoagulation and methotrexate; converting medications from IV to PO; and adjusting medications for renal and hepatic function. Pharmacy Interns will adhere to the ICARE principles and exhibit the AIDET principles.
They will demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background. This position allows the student enrolled in the College of Pharmacy to gain pharmacy experience while completing their degree.

Job Description:

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Registered Intern with Kentucky Board of Pharmacy
  • Enrolled in an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
  • OR
  • A graduate of an approved college or school of pharmacy awaiting examination for licensure as a pharmacist or the results of an examination for licensure as a pharmacist

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office

DESIRABLE

  • Degree in a related area of studies (Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics)
  • Understanding of Pharmacy Calculations
  • IV Admixture Experience
  • Previous experience as hospital pharmacy technician or intern.
