REPORTS TO: DIVISIONAL MERCHANDISE MANAGER - MEN'S APPAREL AND ACCESSORIES

The Buyer is responsible for owning category performance for our large and fast growing categories of Knit Tops and Ballcaps, delivering sales, margin, inventory, and product objectives that support Boot Barn's merchandising strategy across stores and ecommerce. This role develops and executes assortment and product strategies, manages vendor partnerships, forecasts sales and inventory investments, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive business results. The Buyer serves as a key merchant leader who translates customer needs, market trends, and financial goals into profitable product decisions while developing future merchandising talent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Own category strategies and financial performance, ensuring alignment with company objectives and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for sustainable growth through brand expansion, assortment optimization, and strategic vendor partnerships.
  • Develops assortment plans to quantify the buys by lifecycle, store volume group, and address regional and lifestyle differences of our customers
  • Partner closely with Planning to manage Open-to-Buy, inventory flow, and seasonal investment strategies.
  • Partner closely with our Exclusive Brands teams in design, product development and sourcing to deliver highest quality, brand right products at the right price.
  • Partner closely with our third party vendor partners, selecting and negotiating product assortments, pricing, promotional opportunities, and inventory commitments.
  • Continuously improve the speed to market of the categories, especially in partnership with our exclusive brands.
  • Seek out and develop new brands and licenses in our space.
  • Closely coordinates with vendors the timely execution of product manufacturing and delivery
  • Develops the floor set with the visual team to create the strongest impact and engage our customers to drive sales
  • Lead, coach, and develop Assistant Buyers, and emerging merchandising talent.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 5+ years of progressive retail buying experience with demonstrated ownership of category performance and financial results.
  • Strong forecasting, assortment planning, and inventory management skills.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional teams and business decisions.
  • Demonstrated success developing and mentoring junior merchandising talent.
  • Proven ability to connect customer insights, product strategy, and financial performance.
  • Strong communication skills and building relationships both internally and externally with Planning, Allocation, Store Operations, Visuals, Marketing, Design, Sourcing and Vendors.
  • Thorough knowledge of retail math such as sales, gross margin, OTB calculations, initial mark-up calculations turnover, etc.
  • Effective oral presentations with well-prepared content and confident delivery.
  • Experience meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word and Power Point.

PAY RANGE: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00*
