How does a Regional Network Engineer typically collaborate with other IT teams across multiple locations?

A Regional Network Engineer often works closely with local IT staff, data center teams, and security specialists to ensure seamless network performance across various sites. Collaboration usually involves regular virtual meetings, ticketing systems for issue tracking, and coordinated efforts during large-scale upgrades or troubleshooting. Building strong communication channels is key, as the role frequently requires aligning regional needs with global IT policies and sharing best practices across locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Regional Network Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Regional Network Engineer, you need a strong background in computer networking, network security, and troubleshooting, often supported by a bachelor's degree in IT or a related field. Familiarity with network infrastructure tools (such as Cisco or Juniper devices), relevant certifications (like CCNA, CCNP), and network monitoring systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to diverse environments help you excel in cross-functional teams and dynamic regional settings. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure reliable network operations, efficient issue resolution, and seamless connectivity across multiple locations.

What is the difference between Regional Network Engineer vs Network Administrator?

Job description

Network Engineer
Design and Operate the Networks That Move the Nation’s Food Supply

Who We Are:

United States Cold Storage owns and operates one of the most complex temperature-controlled logistics networks in North America. Every day, our systems coordinate the storage and movement of food at national scale across a network of state-of-the-art distribution centers, including multiple highly automated warehouse facilities.

We continue to advance our core warehouse and logistics platforms. Our current focus is on modular, event-driven, API-first and cloud architectures. We continue to enhance reliability and accelerate engineering productivity by strengthening our SRE and AI practices. This is a large investment in innovation to continue to drive operational excellence at our facilities.

If you want to build durable systems that operate in the physical world at scale, this is that opportunity.

The Role:

The Network Engineer is a senior technical contributor within the IT Infrastructure team, responsible for designing, operating, and evolving the enterprise network that supports US Cold’s facilities, cloud platforms, and hybrid environments.

This role bridges traditional enterprise networking and modern cloud connectivity. You will work closely with the Network Infrastructure Manager while operating with significant autonomy as a technical authority.

Your work directly impacts application reliability, warehouse automation, cloud expansion, and secure connectivity across the business.

This is not a ticket‑driven role. It is an ownership role.

What You Will Own:

  • Design and implementation of enterprise LAN, WAN, and wireless networks across facilities and corporate environments.
  • Hybrid networking architecture supporting Azure cloud connectivity and Cloud‑to‑SD‑WAN integration.
  • Firewall policy design and enforcement, including FortiGate platforms and Azure NSGs.
  • Network segmentation, VPNs, and secure connectivity patterns aligned with security and compliance requirements.
  • Final escalation ownership for complex network incidents, including root cause analysis and remediation plans.
  • Collaboration with systems, DevOps, and cloud teams to support containerized and microservices‑based workloads.
  • Mentorship of junior engineers and reinforcement of standard operating procedures.
  • Ongoing modernization of network architecture to support cloud expansion and application evolution.

This role is foundational. The reliability and scalability of the network you design and operate directly affects every system built on top of it.

                Technical Environment:

                • Enterprise LAN, WAN, and wireless networks
                • Fortinet, Juniper, and Aruba networking platforms
                • FortiGate next‑generation firewalls
                • Azure networking (VNets, NSGs, hybrid connectivity)
                • SD‑WAN and hybrid cloud networking patterns
                • Packet analysis and monitoring using tools such as Wireshark and PRTG
                • Integration with container platforms and modern application architectures

                What We’re Looking For:

                • 7+ years of enterprise network engineering experience, including time operating as a senior or lead engineer.
                • Deep, hands‑on expertise with TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and spanning‑tree‑based networks.
                • Proven experience designing and operating secure, highly available network environments.
                • Strong firewall administration experience, including rulesets, NAT, and site‑to‑site VPNs.
                • Advanced troubleshooting skills, including packet capture analysis and performance diagnostics.
                • Ability to clearly communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to leadership.
                • CCNP (Enterprise or Data Center) or CCIE.
                • Cloud networking certifications (Azure Network Engineer Associate or equivalent).
                • Experience with SD‑WAN and modern data center architectures (e.g., leaf‑spine).

                Why This Role Is Different:

This is not a maintenance‑only network role.
This is not a narrow device‑configuration position.

                You will:

                • Operate networks that directly support national food supply operations.
                • Influence how cloud, application, and automation platforms are connected.
                • Work in environments where downtime has physical and financial consequences.
                • Help modernize long‑lived infrastructure without disrupting the business.
                • Be trusted as a technical authority, not just an implementer.

This is an opportunity to build durable, resilient networking inside a company modernizing its core technology platform.

                        • Networks span warehouse facilities, corporate environments, and cloud platforms.
                        • Systems operate continuously across multiple regions.
                        • Reliability and security are non‑negotiable.
                        • On‑site interaction with operational environments occurs as required.

                        Compensation & Structure:

                        • Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00/yr.
                        • Location: Hybrid, Camden, NJ
                        • Travel: Less than 10%
                        • Reports to: Director, IT Operations

                        Operational Context:

This role is primarily technical and office-based, with occasional interaction in operational environments depending on system needs.
