What is a regional network engineer?

Regional Network Engineers are IT professionals responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure across different locations within a specific geographic region for an organization. They ensure reliable connectivity, troubleshoot network issues, and optimize network performance to support business operations. Their work often involves coordinating with local and global teams, managing network security, and integrating new technologies. Regional Network Engineers play a critical role in keeping an organization's communications and data flowing smoothly across multiple sites.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a regional network engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Regional Network Engineer, you need a strong background in computer networking, network security, and troubleshooting, often supported by a bachelor's degree in IT or a related field. Familiarity with network infrastructure tools (such as Cisco or Juniper devices), relevant certifications (like CCNA, CCNP), and network monitoring systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to diverse environments help you excel in cross-functional teams and dynamic regional settings. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure reliable network operations, efficient issue resolution, and seamless connectivity across multiple locations.

How does a regional network engineer typically collaborate with other IT teams across multiple locations?

A Regional Network Engineer often works closely with local IT staff, data center teams, and security specialists to ensure seamless network performance across various sites. Collaboration usually involves regular virtual meetings, ticketing systems for issue tracking, and coordinated efforts during large-scale upgrades or troubleshooting. Building strong communication channels is key, as the role frequently requires aligning regional needs with global IT policies and sharing best practices across locations.

Job description

DataVizion is hiring a Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, and secure customer network environments across the region. The stack is Aruba switching and wireless, Aruba ClearPass, Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls, and SD-WAN. This is a design-and-build role, not a queue role. You'll take projects from requirements gathering through architecture, implementation, and documentation, supporting both internal teams and external customers.

Why DataVizion

We're a technology partner our clients trust with the infrastructure their businesses run on. That trust is earned by people who design well, build what they design, and stand behind it. You won't be a cog in a massive org chart. You'll be the technical authority on your engagements, with the autonomy that comes with it.

What Your Days Look Like

    Solution design and documentation

    • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements before anything gets built
    • Design and document detailed technical specifications and blueprints for IT systems and network solutions
    • Ensure designs adhere to industry best practices and applicable compliance standards
    • Maintain accurate, current documentation of architecture, configurations, and changes

    Network infrastructure

    • Design and optimize network infrastructure spanning LANs, WANs, and cloud-based solutions
    • Implement complex environments on Aruba, Fortinet, and Palo Alto platforms
    • Evaluate and recommend network hardware and software; conduct proof-of-concept testing and make adoption recommendations
    • Research emerging technologies and trends and bring forward the ones worth acting on

    Security

    • Implement robust security measures to protect customer data, systems, and networks
    • Establish and enforce network security policies, define access, and monitor for violations
    • Stay current on threats and vulnerabilities and implement safeguards before they become incidents

    Support

    • Provide remote support, troubleshooting, and fault isolation for customers and on-site engineers
    • Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders, in writing and in the room

    What You Bring

    Required

    • Proven experience as a Network Engineer
    • Extensive experience with dynamic routing protocols
    • 5+ years of experience with Aruba switching and wireless
    • Knowledge of SD-WAN solutions
    • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining sharp attention to detail
    • Excellent listening and communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
    • Strong knowledge of network protocols, security, and infrastructure

    Highly preferred

    • Aruba ClearPass experience
    • Fortinet firewall experience
    • Palo Alto Networks firewall experience

    Nice to have

    • Professional certifications
    • BS/BA in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline

    Location

This is a hybrid role and involves occasional travel to client sites across the region. It's a relationship business, and we show up in person.

    What You’ll Get:

    • Flexible work schedule
    • Unlimited PTO
    • Health, Vision, Dental, and Supplemental Insurance Plans
    • HSA (including monthly employer contributions)
    • Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account
    • 401k profit-sharing plan
    • Employee Assistance Program Services
    • Professional development opportunities
    • Team celebrations
