The Business Development Manager / Senior Business Development Manager is a practice-facing professional responsible for supporting strategic business development initiatives across the Firm, with a primary focus on the Litigation practice. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, this role partners closely with Practice Leadership, attorneys, and members of the Marketing & Business Development team to drive strategic growth, strengthen client relationships, enhance market positioning, and identify new business opportunities, including cross-practice initiatives involving the Intellectual Property and Antitrust practices.

The Manager / Senior Manager will play a key role in executing practice and individual attorney business development plans, managing pitches and proposals, supporting client targeting and client team initiatives, developing market and competitive intelligence, and advancing thought leadership and visibility efforts. The Senior Manager will be expected to operate with greater independence, provide strategic counsel to attorneys, and lead more complex and high-value initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities: Business Development Strategy & Practice Support
  • Partner with Practice Leaders and attorneys to execute business development plans aligned with Firm priorities.
  • Support initiatives across Litigation, Antitrust, Intellectual Property, and other assigned practices.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships, increase market visibility, generate new business, and promote cross-practice collaboration.
  • Support targeted client and prospect outreach and track progress against key business development priorities.
  • Manage pitches, RFPs, proposals, and other new business opportunities from strategy through submission.
  • Develop tailored content that reflects client needs, Firm experience, and competitive differentiators.
  • Conduct research and coordinate attorney and internal team input.
  • Maintain practice credentials, experience materials, pitch decks, and proposal content.
  • Prepare attorneys for pitch meetings and presentations.
  • At the Senior Manager level, provide strategic guidance on significant pursuits, positioning, and messaging.
Client Development & Client Teams
  • Support development strategies for priority clients and prospects.
  • Coordinate client team activities, including research, account planning, meeting preparation, follow-up, and opportunity tracking.
  • Identify cross-practice opportunities and facilitate collaboration among attorney teams.
  • Support client feedback initiatives and translate insights into actionable opportunities.
  • Assist with business development onboarding and integration of lateral partners.
  • Conduct client, prospect, industry, and competitor research.
  • Monitor relevant litigation, regulatory, industry, and market developments.
  • Identify trends that may create opportunities for outreach, thought leadership, or new business.
  • Provide concise, actionable intelligence to attorneys and Practice Leadership.
  • Monitor competitor positioning and incorporate relevant insights into business development strategies.
Marketing Campaigns & Thought Leadership
  • Partner with attorneys and Marketing & Communications colleagues on targeted thought leadership and visibility initiatives.
  • Support client alerts, webinars, podcasts, events, sponsorships, speaking opportunities, and other strategic campaigns.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance attorney and practice visibility.
  • Ensure consistent practice messaging across pitches, website content, credentials, and marketing materials.
  • Support strategic rankings and awards initiatives as appropriate.
Partner & Attorney Support
  • Advise attorneys on business development planning, client targeting, relationship development, and follow-up.
  • Help attorneys prepare for client meetings, conferences, networking, and targeted outreach.
  • Encourage accountability and follow-through on business development priorities.
  • At the Senior Manager level, serve as a trusted advisor to partners on business development strategy and client engagement.
Collaboration & Operations
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Marketing, Communications, Digital, and Marketing Operations colleagues.
  • Track business development activity, opportunities, pipeline, outcomes, and relevant ROI metrics.
  • Assist with practice budgets and investment prioritization.
  • Maintain accurate practice, client, and experience information in Firm systems.
  • Contribute to improvements in business development processes, tools, reporting, and infrastructure.
  • Senior Managers may supervise and mentor junior Business Development team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
  • 5 -10 years of business development, marketing, or practice management experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Experience supporting litigation, antitrust, intellectual property, investigations, regulatory, or other sophisticated legal practices preferred.
  • Strong experience managing pitches, proposals, client development initiatives, cross-selling, and strategic accounts.
  • Strong research, analytical, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with partners, attorneys, and professional staff.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented approach with sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with CRM, experience management, and proposal tools preferred
