As the Director of Cybersecurity - Red Team, you will lead and shape Target's Red Team program, responsible for emulating real-world adversaries to uncover unknown risk, measure defensive capabilities, and drive meaningful improvements across the enterprise.

This role is accountable for defining Red Team strategy, overseeing safe and effective execution of operations in production environments, and translating technical findings into business-relevant insights that influence enterprise security decisions.

You will:

  • Lead Red Team operations that simulate and emulate threat actor behavior to uncover real risk across Target's enterprise.
  • Drive improvements in Target's security posture by translating findings into clear, risk-based narratives for technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Set the strategic direction for Red Team capabilities, including operations, tooling, infrastructure, and tradecraft.
  • Partner closely with Cyber Threat Intelligence, Cybersecurity Incident Response, Enterprise Incident Management, and Security Architecture to align operations with real-world threats and enterprise priorities.
  • Ensure Red Team activities provide realistic training opportunities that strengthen detection and response capabilities across the Cyber Fusion Center.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, operational discipline, and safety, grounded in a "do no harm" philosophy.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on adversarial risk, defensive capability gaps, and strategic security investments.
  • Train and lead a team of skilled Red Team operators.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the long-term strategy for Target's Red Team program, aligning operations to enterprise security priorities and evolving threat landscapes.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of Red Team operations, ensuring they are realistic, safe, and impactful in uncovering unknown risk.
  • Stay current on evolving adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), continuously advancing Red Team capabilities and impact.
  • Drive integration with Cyber Threat Intelligence to ensure Red Team activities reflect real and emerging adversary behaviors.
  • Establish and mature Red Team capabilities across tooling, infrastructure, and operational tradecraft to support scalable and sophisticated engagements.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality reporting and outbriefs (technical, managerial, and strategic) that clearly communicate risk and required actions.
  • Influence enterprise security strategy by partnering with detection, response, and engineering teams to address gaps identified through Red Team operations.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of Red Team operators and engineers, including coaching, performance management, and career progression.
  • Maintain strong governance and operational safety standards, ensuring adherence to approved tooling, two-person integrity, and enterprise policies.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships across the Cyber Fusion Center and broader enterprise to drive collaboration and security improvements.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical risks and strategies to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.

About You:

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of cybersecurity experience, with demonstrated expertise in offensive security, red teaming, or adversary simulation
  • Proven leadership and carer development experience with high-performing cybersecurity or offensive security teams
  • Deep understanding of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), and experience applying them in realistic environment
  • Experience leading or participating in Red Team operations within production environments.
  • Strong ability to translate technical findings into business-relevant risk insights that influence decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and influence enterprise security strategy
  • Experience working closely with threat intelligence, incident response, or detection engineering teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex, ambiguous security challenges
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to technical and executive audiences
  • Commitment to operational excellence, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Self-directed learner who stays current with evolving cybersecurity threats, technologies, and best practices
This position may be considered for a Remote or Hybrid (known internally at Target as "Flex for Your Day") work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Remote work arrangement means the team member worksfull-time from home oran alternatelocation that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at a Target location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role may be performed either remote or onsite at a Target location depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day. Work duties cannot be performed outside of the country of the primary work location, unless otherwise prescribed by Target.
