Red Hat Linux System Administration

Department of Cybersecurity

UMGC Stateside

Location: San Diego, CA

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach at San Diego, CA, in the School of Cybersecurity & Information Technology. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course(s):

Introduction to Linux (CMIT 291):

A study of the Linux operating system. The goal is to configure and manage processes, user interfaces, device files, print facilities, file systems, task automation, the boot-up/shutdown sequence, disk storage, network connectivity, system security, and users and groups.

Red Hat Linux System Administration I (CMIT 388):

Development of the key foundational skills needed by an RHCSA-certified Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administrator. Focus is on the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to become a Linux systems expert or Linux system administrator. Discussion covers advanced command line concepts and enterprise-level tools intended for cybersecurity professionals who need to perform essential Linux administration tasks including installation, configuring networking connectivity, managing physical storage, automation/programmability, and performing security administration tasks.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning

  • Interested faculty MUST have an ACTIVE and CURRENT CERTIFICATE in Linux.

  • Professional experience in Computer Networking and Security

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred

  • This position is specifically to teach onsite in San Diego, CA.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • ACTIVE and CURRENT CERTIFICATE in CCNA, Cisco, or CEH.

  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.

  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.

  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
