Department Summary
The College of Design (DSGN) is composed of three schools and one independent department: the School of Architecture & Environment; the School of Planning, Public Policy and Management; the School of Art + Design; and the Department of the History of Art and Architecture. One of six professional schools or colleges at the University of Oregon, DSGN has over 80 tenure-related and approximately 85 non-tenure-related faculty. These faculty drive undergraduate and graduate degree programs that enroll more than 1,500 undergraduate majors, and 500 graduate students, and contribute to the broad liberal arts education of another 2,500 students. DSGN runs an overall operating budget of approximately $30 million with operations in both Eugene and Portland.
Position Summary
The College of Design Office of Student Services is seeking an Assistant Director of Graduate Recruitment to, under the direction of the Director of Recruitment, Enrollment, and Student Success, interface with potential students through the selection and admission process of the program. This position holds the following major responsibilities: develop and generate student leads for Design graduate programs through various venues (including face to face, phone, online, and on and off-campus events) and provide counseling on program attributes.
The Assistant Director of Graduate Recruitment will participate in the admission and application process by conducting interviews and reviewing application materials. They will have a thorough understanding of the admission requirements in order to render an admission decision and/or scholarship award. The Assistant Director of Graduate Recruitment will have the responsibility to monitor application progress from start to completion and to assist in identifying and resolving issues along the way. They will review and evaluate data throughout the admission process to provide weekly, monthly, and yearly reporting. They will be responsible for conducting meetings with key stakeholders, coordinating, and assisting in the creation of communications to new student leads, prospective students and admitted students, resolving problems as needed.
This position requires extensive domestic and occasional international travel to recruiting events, frequently held evenings and weekends. When not traveling or working events, office hours are 8:00AM-5:00 PM, Mon-Fri.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or four years of equivalent education and experience.
• Three years of recruitment, admission or sales experience
Professional Competencies
• Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with prospective students from a variety of backgrounds.
• Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
• Ease in using technology for communication, record keeping, and management of data.
• Demonstrated knowledge of recruitment and admissions at an accredited college or university.
• Knowledge of international student perspectives and needs.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience applying marketing/selling techniques and methods.
• Experience designing promotional presentation materials and giving public presentations.
• Experience planning and directing promotional activities.
• Experience creating student admissions activity reports.
• Experience analyzing data to make informed recruitment decisions.
• Experience working in a higher education setting with diverse populations and cultures.
