Job description

Rate of Pay: $17.00
Status: Open Until Filled

This position is within the Recreation Department which reports directly to a supervisor as directed by the Department Head.
 
  • This position is responsible for monitoring activity in parks and recreational facilities, ensuring compliance with city ordinances and department policies.
  • Coordinates work schedule to align with pavilion, field, and rentals of other park amenities, providing friendly and timely customer service.
  • Assists with activities at Franklin Gateway Sports Complex, special events, and other department activities and programs.
  • Will at times perform light maintenance around recreational areas, such as trash removal, sweeping/blowing, and quick repairs not requiring work orders.
  • Ensures security and safety of facilities, playgrounds, and courts while patrolling, such as restroom doors, fences, gates, windows, concession windows, and submits work orders in a timely manner to address issues found in the parks.
  • Enforce city-wide ordinances, rules, and regulations.
  • Greets and provides facility/department information to the general public both in person and by telephone and email.
  • Handles customer issues and concerns regarding parks, facilities and events within their knowledge and ability.
  • Resolves problems that may arise in a proactive and professional manner.
  • Performs facility opening and closing procedures as needed.
  • Provides routine maintenance assistance including litter pick-up in and around facilities, cleaning of restrooms and other light cleaning as needed.
  • Regularly monitors and inspects facilities, indoors and outdoors, to ensure safety of the patrons, activities and the facility. Performs minor repairs as necessary and reports any larger repair or concern as needed.
  • Assists with the implementation of department events, programs and activities as needed including set-up, supervision, breakdown and follow-up.
  • Stays abreast of issues and happenings within the facilities, department and community.
                  
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Current CPR/First Aid or AED Certification or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
  • Must have a valid Georgia driver’s license and a satisfactory seven-year driving history to include no DUIs in the last five years.
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of various indoor and outdoor sports and games.
  • Knowledge of the care and use of equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of city safety procedures and basic first aid.
  • Ability to plan and organize recreational activities.
  • Ability to maintain discipline of a group including crowd control and to control recreation activities.
  • Ability to supervise seasonal employees.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and exercise judgment.
  • Ability to interact with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Normal hours are varied throughout the week and weekend. Availability to work on nights and weekends is a requirement.
