Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Recreation, the Recreation Programs and Facility Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the daily operations, programs, events, and staff of the City’s Recreation Center and other City Recreation facilities. The Recreation Center Supervisor coordinates programs, supervises staff, manages facilities, and schedules the use of City recreation facilities by guest organizations. A flexible work schedule is essential to support year-round recreational activities, including evenings, weekends, and special events. 

Responsibilities:  The following list of responsibilities are meant to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. 


  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Recreation Center.
  • Schedules, manages and supports events such as recreation events, sport tournaments, games, and leagues utilizing relevant apps and programs
  • Manages and trains Recreation Department staff, including seasonal and part-time employees.
  • Coordinates with custodial staff and the Public Buildings Division to provide building maintenance, program preparation, and security.
  • In coordination with the Recreation Department supervisor, Oversees the scheduling of programs, activities, and staff, including coverage for open shifts.
  • In coordination with the Recreation Department Supervisor, plans, organizes, and directs Recreation Department programs.
  • Supervises and evaluates part-time Recreation staff.
  • Oversees time and attendance and reviews work hours of employees. 
  • Keeps track of petty cash, program and rental fees.
  • Communicates information about Recreation programs and events to the general public through multiple formats.
  • Engages with and responds to inquiries of the general public.
  • Maintains and updates the Recdesk program used for administration of programs.
  • In coordination with the Recreation Department Supervisor, maintains Recreation Center membership information.
  • Oversees the maintenance of Rec center exercise equipment and schedules repairs as needed.
  • Modifies work schedule as needed to support recreation programing.
  • Prepares monthly and annual reports as directed.
  • In coordination with the Recreation Department Supervisor maintains inventory control and orders/shops for program supplies as needed.
  • Maintains Recreation program records.
  • Coordinates with external organizations and committees on shared programing.
  • May be assigned to act as the Recreation Department Supervisor in their absence.
  • Related duties as assigned.


Desirable Abilities, Knowledge and Skills:


  • Experience overseeing day-to-day operations of recreation centers or similar facilities.
  • Experience scheduling, managing, and supporting events such as sports tournaments, games, and leagues.
  • Experience using scheduling systems (e.g., RecDesk or similar recreation management software).
  • Knowledge of managerial and administrative practices and procedures. 
  • Experience budgeting, handling petty cash handling, and financial recordkeeping.
  • Experience in facility management, custodial coordination, and safety and security procedures.
  • Experience training, supervising, and evaluating staff.
  • Experience using timekeeping and attendance systems.
  • Experience using public relations, marketing, and communication strategies.
  • Experience collaborating with schools, committees, and external organizations.
  • Experience in team leadership, delegation, and staff motivation.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and interpersonal communication.
  • Experience making decisions under pressure, especially during large events.
  • Ability to speak and present in a public setting.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. (Bachelors Degree in Recreation Management, Education, or a related field preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory and administrative experience in a comprehensive community recreational program or recreational sports facility.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the desired abilities, knowledge and skills.
  • If selected, the candidate will be required to pass a BCI (Criminal Investigation).
