What is a recovery coach?

A recovery coach is a professional who supports people seeking to overcome addiction or substance use disorders. They provide guidance, encouragement, and resources to help individuals develop healthy habits, set goals, and maintain sobriety. Unlike therapists or counselors, recovery coaches do not provide clinical treatment, but instead focus on helping clients build skills, access services, and navigate recovery challenges. Their role is often peer-based, drawing on personal experience and specialized training to motivate and empower clients.

How does a recovery coach collaborate with healthcare professionals and support networks to help clients achieve their recovery goals?

Recovery Coaches frequently work alongside healthcare professionals, such as therapists, social workers, and medical providers, to ensure holistic support for clients. They act as advocates and liaisons, coordinating care, sharing progress updates (with client consent), and helping clients navigate community resources. Additionally, Recovery Coaches often engage with family members and peer support groups to reinforce positive environments and accountability. Effective collaboration and communication are essential for addressing challenges and celebrating milestones in each client's recovery journey.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a recovery coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recovery Coach, you need a solid understanding of addiction recovery principles, motivational interviewing techniques, and ideally a relevant certification such as Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) or Certified Recovery Coach (CRC). Familiarity with digital case management tools and recovery support platforms is often required. Outstanding active listening, empathy, and strong boundary-setting skills help coaches build trust and foster client empowerment. These skills enable Recovery Coaches to effectively guide individuals through their recovery journey and support sustainable behavioral change.

Lead with Purpose. Inspire Recovery. Grow Your Nursing Leadership Career.

Are you an experienced RN leader ready to make a lasting impact? If you're passionate about leading compassionate teams, delivering exceptional patient care, and helping individuals rebuild their lives, we'd love to meet you.

At Advanced Recovery Systems (ARS), every day is an opportunity to change lives. As a physician-led, nationally recognized behavioral healthcare organization, we provide evidence-based treatment for substance use and mental health disorders, helping patients, families, and communities find hope and healing.

Since 2013, ARS has grown into one of the nation's leading behavioral healthcare providers, serving patients through trusted treatment brands including The Recovery Village, Promises Behavioral Health, The Right Step, and The Ranch. Together, we're expanding access to high-quality care while creating meaningful career opportunities for dedicated healthcare professionals.

Join Our Team

We're seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (RN) to join our leadership team at The Recovery Village Salem in Salem, Oregon.

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative nursing leader who thrives in a fast-paced behavioral health environment and is ready to help shape clinical excellence while mentoring and supporting a dedicated team of nurses.

Why You'll Love This Role

As the Assistant Director of Nursing, you'll be more than an operational leader—you'll be a mentor, problem solver, and advocate for both patients and staff. Working alongside the Director of Nursing and an interdisciplinary clinical team, you'll help ensure outstanding patient care while fostering a culture of accountability, compassion, and continuous improvement.

Your leadership will directly influence patient outcomes, staff development, and the overall success of our nursing department.

In this leadership role, you will:

  • Lead and support daily nursing operations to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Mentor, coach, and supervise nursing and behavioral health staff.
  • Partner with the Director of Nursing to maintain clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and operational workflows to support patient needs.
  • Oversee medication management, pharmacy coordination, and nursing supply inventory.
  • Monitor infection prevention practices and conduct quality assurance audits.
  • Coordinate admissions, discharges, transfers, laboratory services, and continuity of care.
  • Ensure accurate clinical documentation and compliance within AVATAR.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and external healthcare partners to provide seamless patient care.
  • Support emergency preparedness and maintain safe staffing during critical situations.
  • Assist with specialty programs, including Vivitrol coordination, as assigned.
  • Serve as the Director of Nursing in their absence when needed.
The Difference You'll Make

Recovery is rarely a straight path—but compassionate leadership can make all the difference. As Assistant Director of Nursing, you'll help create an environment where patients feel supported, nurses feel empowered, and every team member is united by a shared mission of changing lives.

If you're looking for a leadership opportunity where your clinical expertise, compassion, and commitment to excellence truly matter, we invite you to join us at The Recovery Village Salem.
