TCOLE Mission
The mission of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, as a regulatory State agency, is to establish and enforce standards to ensure that the people of Texas are served by highly trained and ethical law enforcement, corrections, and telecommunications personnel.
Our Internship Program
TCOLE's comprehensive internship program provides college students with valuable ยฟrsthand experience in law enforcement standards, training, and administration. Through an 8ยฟ10week structured experience in our Records Department, this intern will develop practical skills while contributing to meaningful projects that support the agency's regulatory mission. Our program features a unique leadership development module that enhances professional growth while building connections with experienced professionals across law enforcement communities.
Who We're Looking For
The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is seeking a motivated college student for our fall semester internship program located at 6330 E HWY 290, Suite 200, Austin, TX.
The Records Department College Intern performs professionallevel work assisting the records team within TCOLE. Performs technical assistance work involving implementing TCOLE's records management program and providing technical assistance to program staff and government agencies.
Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Duties
Examples of Work Performed
Processes incoming records submitted by law enforcement agencies across the State of Texas.
Provides support to and collaborates in the planning, implementation, and documentation of the records program.
Monitors compliance with TCOLE standards, state requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
Maintains professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders including law enforcement professionals, and community partners.
Participates in leadership development and law enforcement administrative and regulatory training.
Participates in staff meetings, professional development, and agency events.
Completes an agency project addressing current agency needs.
Collaborates with division mentors throughout the program.
Performs related work as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university or a recent graduate (within the past 12 months). Pursuing or completed a degree in Public Administration, Government Relations, Political Science, Education, or related ยฟeld.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the program area; public administration techniques; and program management processes and techniques.
Skills in planning, prioritizing work activities, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Previous volunteer or work experience in law enforcement or public service.
Experience with data analysis and report preparation.
Understanding of regulatory compliance and administrative procedures.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts; to devise solutions to problems; to prepare reports; to develop, evaluate, and interpret policies and procedures; and to communicate effectively.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
Strong written and verbal communication skills with precise attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to handle strict confidential information with discretion and integrity. Skills in building and maintaining partnerships within a work environment.
