Summary 

Reporting to the Operations Leader and Site Leader, as the Shift Leaderyou will provide hands-on leadership on a production shift within the plant to ensure that production schedules are met safely and on time, while continually reducing costs and increasing overall efficiencies; all within a fast paced (Just in Time) food manufacturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Understands and fulfills the duties of a leader of the following programs within the production area: Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), All food safety programs, All health & safety programs, All FGF policies,programs, or procedures.
  • Leads by example and fosters an environment of mutual respect and teamwork among Team Members.
  • Assists with troubleshooting production equipment and processes, and supports testing of new equipment, methods, and products.
  • Responsible for leading all production Line Leaders and crews on a shift while prioritizing activities of supporting teams, including maintenance, sanitation, shipping, quality, and engineering.
  • Coordinates department schedules, products, and manpower while collaborating with Talent and Development, Sanitation, Quality, Shipping, and Maintenance teams to ensure smooth plant operations.
  • Ensures proper methods and procedures are followed and that quality, safety, and environmental standards are met, maintaining a safe work environment through enforcement of Company Standards and regular inspections.
  • Provides training as required to ensure an effective and efficient work force.
  • Utilizes OMS system & SCADA System (when available) to meet production targets and follows Quality Control procedures at all times.
  • Completes daily reports on KPI’s.
  • Ensures product quality and output targets, manages shift schedules and skills matrix, provides performance feedback, and prepares daily huddle sheets for leaders and partners with Talent and Development to promote a highly engaged team member culture.
  • Works with Shipping TLs to address any concerns with material management.
  • Answers calls on radio (cellphones, if applicable) from various departments.
  • Schedules team members per crew profiles, prepares weekly and daily T&A schedules, resolves exceptions,assigns staff to lines, and monitors attendance for lateness or absences
  • Monitors inventory activity, stages materials for packaging scans, supports shift report updates, and troubleshoots OMS inaccuracies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-4 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be a demonstrated leader who interacts with others and is adept at leading/motivating a team to meet schedule demands.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication skills, along with simple mathematical abilities.
  • Ability to manage difficult people (conflict resolution, team engagement, collaboration)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Reports Nights (6 pm to 6 am), however, must be flexible to workdays, afternoons, & weekends if needed.
  • Working knowledge of GMP's, HACCP & O.H.S.A required
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Post-secondary education an asset
