Job description

Summary:
The Medical Office Specialist provides patient care in accordance with established methods and techniques and conforms to recognized standards.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Willparticipate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic that isconsistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standardsdocument. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, andembrace the principles contained within.
2. Greetspatients for providers, answers the telephone, routing of calls/tasks, books appointments,verifies patient insurance coverage, acts as cashier for payments and preparesfor appointments.
3. Greets andcheck patients in, verifies current demographics and insurance coverage.Notifies back-office staff of patient's arrival in a timely manner.
4. Workingknowledge of the referral process.
5. Uses thecorrect search criteria to eliminate the creation of duplicate documentationand enters in the electronic medical record.
6. Contactsthe assistant or provider promptly when an acutely ill patient eithertelephones or approaches the reception desk with or without an appointment.
7. Directspatient flow and prepare patients for exams.
8. Proactivelymonitors and manages provider schedules for accuracy.
9. Activelyparticipates in the cleaning of shared work areas.
10. Participatesin the orientation and training of new employees.
11. May workat multiple sites as determined by department necessity.
Education/Licensure/Experience:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Six (6) months of customer service in aprofessional office setting OR one (1) year or more in a service-relatedindustry required.
3. Certification from a Medical Office Specialistprogram is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
1. Ability to work well with providers, clinical staff,and patients.
2. Ability to work on multiple taskssimultaneously in a busy, fast-paced environment while maintaining quality ofwork.
3. Excellent proven customer service skills.
4. Intermediate computer and telephone skills.
