LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – Plainview Campus SCHOOL: Kenneth L. Mattox School of Mathematics and Sciences SUPERVISED BY: Dean, Kenneth L. Mattox School of Mathematics and Sciences POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Professional/Teacher) 9 month POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None THIS POSITION WILL BEGIN AUGUST 2026 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES As a full-time (9 month) faculty member, the Assistant Professor of Computer Science will be primarily responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate computer science courses.

Additionally, faculty members are expected to have an authentic Christian faith that is evident through their personal interactions and activities, commitment to a local church body, and is a model for our students. Faculty should seek out mentoring relationships with the students through opportunities such as academic advising, undergraduate research, and student organization support. SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES Prepare and teach (24) semester hours each academic year.

Maintain a minimum of 10 hours of office hours/week. Commitment to leading undergraduate research. Academically advise undergraduate students and assist with registrations and recruiting events.

Assist the dean and faculty members in developing new computer science programs, reporting data, selecting textbooks, and developing syllabi. Serve on University, Faculty, and School Committees; assist with and attend graduations and school events, and attend scheduled faculty/staff meetings. The above statements are not a complete list of all responsibilities and duties performed by employees in this position.

Employee may perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Math & Science or the Vice President of Academic Affairs. QUALIFICATIONS A commitment to and an agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular. Doctorate in Computer Science or closely related field with at least eighteen graduate hours in computer science.

ABD applicants will also be considered. EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Recent experience teaching computer science in a college or university setting. Experience with or interest in online course development and/or teaching.

Research ideas suitable for undergraduate students. A commitment to innovation in teaching. Proficiency with an online Learning Management System (BlackBoard, Canvas, etc.) or willingness to learn BlackBoard to maintain attendance and grades for classes.

Additionally, preference will be given to applicants with experience in Data Science. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Evidence of the successful teaching of object-oriented programming, with preference given to applicants also qualified to teach database systems, web programming, and/or software engineering. Fluency in the English language with the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas orally and in writing.

The ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with no direct supervision. Proficiency with computers, technology, and related educational/classroom equipment. A strong interest in teaching and leading in the growth and development of undergraduate students.

The ability and desire to apply Christian principles in the workplace. Willingness to make trips as required for professional activities. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Able to pass background checks. Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report. A credit check will be conducted to ensure the requirement is met.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of the hire date to establish his or her identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Naturalization Services. Employees must be able and willing to travel.
