Kickstart Your Career in GIS & Planning!

Are you a college student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and community planning? Cottonwood Heights is now accepting applications for a motivated and detail-oriented GIS Intern to join our Planning Department team.

The Cottonwood Heights' internship program is designed to help you apply your academic training, build your professional network, and expand your knowledge of how GIS is used in real-world planning environments.

What You'll Do:

As a GIS Intern, you'll support current and long-range planning initiatives through GIS mapping and analysis. You'll work closely with experienced GIS staff and contribute to meaningful projects, such as:

  • Field data verification (e.g., addresses and land use)
  • GPS data collection using Trimble equipment
  • Assisting in GIS research studies and map creation
  • Developing or updating "how-to" digital manuals for GIS tasks
  • Supporting the creation of interactive web maps and applications

Desired Skills & Experience:

We're looking for candidates with foundational experience and interest in GIS, including:

  • Coursework or training in GIS, planning, or related fields
  • Familiarity with ESRI ArcMap for editing and managing features
  • Understanding of GeoDatabase structures and basic GIS principles
  • Experience using Trimble GPS field data collection equipment
