Job description

Title: Industrial Safety Group Intern / Coโ€‘Op


Location: Arkema โ€“ Mobile, AL (with potential travel)


About the Role

Arkema is seeking a highly motivated seniorโ€‘level student or recent grad for an Industrial Safety Group Intern/Coโ€‘Op role. This opportunity is designed for candidates who have completed most of their coursework and are ready for a handsโ€‘on, immersive internship supporting occupational and process safety initiatives across manufacturing sites. The intern will contribute meaningful work toward Arkemaโ€™s goal of zero incidents while gaining realโ€‘world industrial safety experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support industrial safety, occupational health, and process safety programs
  • Assist with hazard analyses, machine guarding surveys, and site safety assessments
  • Help manage Safety Data Sheet (SDS) inventories and industrial hygiene databases
  • Support risk assessments, STARMAP data entry, and PHA preparation
  • Participate in safety audits, training development, and safety meetings
  • Analyze safety data and assist with behavioral-based safety initiatives
  • Collaborate with site leadership and Corporate Industrial Safety Group professionals


Internship Structure & Expectations

  • Targeted for senior students (or recent graduates) who have completed most core coursework
  • Interns are expected to spend the majority of the work week onโ€‘site, up to 40 hours per week
  • The intern will be based onโ€‘site and available to support dayโ€‘toโ€‘day safety projects and site needs under local supervision
  • Participation in weekly meetings with other ISG interns to review onโ€‘site work and support broader ISG initiatives, including some remote support for other U.S. sites
  • Opportunities to travel to other Arkema sites for project support, observation, and professional development; travel expenses are covered when traveling beyond the assigned site
  • Interns may receive college credit if their academic program allows (candidates should be prepared to share program requirements, such as project or presentation expectations)


Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemistry, Biology, or related field
  • Senior or recent grad preferred
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2
  • Strong analytical skills; experience with statistics and Microsoft Excel preferred
