What is a real world evidence?

A Real World Evidence (RWE) job involves analyzing data from real-world sources, such as electronic health records, claims databases, and patient registries, to generate insights on the safety, effectiveness, and value of medical treatments. Professionals in this field work with biopharmaceutical companies, healthcare organizations, and regulatory agencies to support clinical decision-making, policy development, and market access strategies. Roles often require expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and data analytics, along with knowledge of healthcare systems and regulatory frameworks.

What are the typical responsibilities of someone working in a real world evidence role?

Professionals in Real World Evidence (RWE) roles are responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing studies using real-world health data to generate insights that inform medical, regulatory, and market access decisions. Their day-to-day tasks often include data management, statistical analysis, collaborating with cross-functional teams (such as clinical, regulatory, and medical affairs), and communicating findings through reports or presentations. They may also be involved in developing protocols, working with external partners or data vendors, and ensuring research complies with ethical and regulatory standards. This dynamic role requires balancing analytical work with collaboration and communication across multiple stakeholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the real world evidence position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Real World Evidence roles, you need a strong background in epidemiology, biostatistics, and data analysis, typically supported by an advanced degree in a relevant scientific or health field. Familiarity with data analytics tools (such as SAS, R, or SQL), real-world data sources (like electronic health records and claims databases), and knowledge of regulatory guidelines are highly valued. Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities help in translating complex data into actionable health insights and working effectively with diverse teams. These competencies are crucial for generating, interpreting, and delivering real-world evidence that informs healthcare decision-making and supports regulatory submissions.
