The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is currently hiring for full-time Registered Nurses (RN) to perform difficult skilled human support and administrative work administering daily medications, providing daily medical assessments, ordering medications, managing medication administration records, transcribing doctors orders, drawing blood, documenting activities, attending clinical staffing and training meetings, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Job Duties:
  • Admits clients to the program in the absence of the clinical staff; obtains physician orders; orders medications; collaborates with pharmacy; transcribes orders.
  • Administers medications both intramuscularly and orally.
  • Completes nursing assessments and medically related assessments ordered by the prescriber.
  • Facilitates psycho-educational groups for clients.
  • Supervises staff on assigned shift; oversees monitors and manages unit operations in the absence of the Unit/Nursing Supervisor in collaboration with on call medical and clinical staff.
  • Draws blood and performs urine drug screens; labels specimens via computer printout; administers and interprets TB tests; processes gel top blood tubes via centrifuge; assists, monitors and tracks lab results.
  • Maintains thorough documentation of daily activities including nursing and treatment services.
  • Attends and participates on treatment team; attends staff meetings as required.
  • Coordinates schedules and ensures appropriate level of nursing services to clients to include monitoring, administration and documentation of injections, veni punctures and other nursing services; collaborates with treatment providers.
  • Schedules lab tests, injections and electrocardiograms; reschedules appointments missed by clients with case manager.
  • Responds to medical emergency situations and calls emergency medical services for consumers and staff when warranted.
  • Coordinates medical and psychiatric needs of clients with medical staff.
  • Enters data into computer database for new clients; updates client data when needed; researches client information/insurance status.
  • Refers clients to resources in the community for housing, dental clinics, NA and AA groups, food pantry, health clinics, primary care physicians, library for research or computer use, etc.
  • Maintains ongoing and current competencies requirements for licensure.
  • Attends trainings, meetings and seminars are required.
Position Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree or higher with coursework in nursing.
  • Moderate experience as a registered nurse in a behavioral health setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possession of a current Virginia license as a Registered issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing.
Special Requirements
  • CPR certification.
  • Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Computer proficiency

Qualifying licensed staff will be eligible for $7,500.00 sign-on bonus as defined by the terms and conditions of the approved sign-on bonus policy.
