Procurement Manager

Full-time Regular Professional - STAFF Germantown, MD, US

Salary Range: $90,000.00 To $120,000.00 Annually

Precigen is a dedicated commercial and clinical stage biopharmaceutical company advancing the next generation of gene therapies using precision technology to target the most urgent and intractable diseases in our core therapeutic areas of immuno-oncology, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases. Precigen has developed novel manufacturing processes to deliver UltraCAR-T® and AdenoVerse™ immunotherapies to patients.

We are seeking a hard-working Procurement Manager. Procurement Management oversees the end-to-end procurement lifecycle, from strategic sourcing through contract execution, ensuring operational excellence and alignment with category strategies. This role leads supplier selection, relationship management, and contract compliance while driving adherence to procurement policies and procedures. The position is also responsible for executing supplier diversity and sustainability initiatives, supporting organizational goals through effective supplier engagement and risk-managed procurement practices.

This position is located at our Germantown, MD location, join us in our mission to serve patients with our next generation of innovative Gene Therapies.

This position will perform a broad range of tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the end-to-end procurement management of different categories, including but not limited to material, services, equipment, and engineering across both our commercial and our R&D functions.
  • Negotiate and manage purchasing contracts to improve key terms including price, payment terms, lead time, quality standards and after-sales service, ensure quality and mitigate risks.
  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing strategies for API raw materials, intermediates, excipients, solvents, packaging, and contract services.
  • Ensures uninterrupted supply of compliant raw materials and services while optimizing cost, quality, risk, and supplier performance.
  • Identify and mitigate supply risks related to single‑source dependencies, geopolitical issues, and regulatory changes.
  • Develop contingency and business continuity plans for critical materials.
  • Manage purchase requests and procurement activities for a range of goods and services, applying professional judgment to ensure compliance with company Sarbanes‑Oxley policies and business objectives.
  • Evaluate requisitions for completeness, appropriateness, and risk, and determine the most effective procurement approach based on spend level, complexity, and business impact.
  • Oversee timely and accurate receiving processes for both physical goods and services, ensuring that receipts and confirmations of service completion are properly recorded in the ERP system to support three‑way match controls and enable accurate and timely invoice processing and payment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or related field (master’s degree preferred) or 4-6 years of related experience.
  • Supplier Relationship Management (SRP), and 5+ yrs of Pharma experience, Biotech preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in the following disciplines procurement, inventory management, and planning (preferably in a manufacturing environment).
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, project management skills and familiarity with global sourcing and logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of FDA, EU GMP, ICH Q7, and pharmaceutical supplier qualification requirements.
  • Ability to effectively manage and resolve changing and conflicting priorities appropriately.
  • Proven track record of team management and development preferred.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities with a passion for implementing innovative solutions and process improvement (six sigma, lean initiatives, etc.).
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP).
  • Certification in supply chain i.e. APICS, CPM, CPSM (preferred).
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, logistics and Finance Department
