What Is a Quantitative Developer?

A quantitative developer is a computer programmer and software engineer who writes code and develops trading infrastructure for investment banks. As a quantitative developer, your job duties include creating and testing financial models and forecasts, validating and documenting the performance of financial models, analyzing performance results, and reporting on the data to traders, financial engineers, and IT support. You need a strong background in scientific computing, an understanding of financial markets, and good communication skills to be an effective quantitative developer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quantitative Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quantitative Developer, you need expertise in mathematics, statistics, programming (often in Python, C++, or Java), and a strong background in quantitative finance or a related field. Familiarity with financial modeling tools, version control systems like Git, and experience with data analysis libraries or platforms are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication make candidates stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for developing robust, efficient models and tools that directly support trading, risk management, and financial decision-making.

How does a Quantitative Developer typically collaborate with quantitative analysts and traders in a financial firm?

Quantitative Developers work closely with quantitative analysts to implement mathematical models into robust, efficient code that can be used by traders for real-time decision-making. They often translate research prototypes into production-ready applications, ensuring that the models are both accurate and optimized for speed. Regular communication with traders helps Quantitative Developers understand the practical requirements of trading strategies, allowing them to tailor tools and systems for maximum usability and impact. This collaborative environment is essential for quickly adapting to market changes and maintaining a competitive edge.

What are Quantitative Developers?

Quantitative Developers, often called 'quant devs,' are professionals who combine expertise in programming, mathematics, and finance to design, develop, and maintain complex financial models and trading algorithms. They work closely with quantitative analysts (quants) to implement models that analyze financial data, price securities, or automate trading strategies. Their role typically involves programming in languages like Python, C++, or Java, and working with large datasets to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of financial systems. Quantitative Developers play a critical role in investment banks, hedge funds, and financial technology firms.

What is the difference between Quantitative Developer vs Quantitative Analyst?

Common Search & ComparisonFocuses on coding and system buildingFocuses on market analysis and strategy

While both roles work within the finance industry and require quantitative skills, Quantitative Developers primarily focus on building and maintaining trading systems and algorithms through programming. Quantitative Analysts concentrate on analyzing data and developing models to inform trading strategies. The roles often collaborate but differ in their core responsibilities and skill sets.

Job description

About Amplifier

Amplifier Health is building the frontier of clinical voice AI. We are developing foundational models (like Sona-2) that extract deep, actionable health biomarkers from human speech. We just completed our self-serve API, and we are moving into a massive Product-Led Growth (PLG) sprint targeting digital health platforms, developers, and specialized clinics.

We are looking for a Head of Growth to architect, build, and scale our entire Go-To-Market engine from the ground up.

The Role

As the Head of Growth at a pre-Series A AI company, you will not be managing a massive existing team or inheriting a mature marketing playbook. We are far too early for a pure strategy or "architect-only" role. You must be a player-coach-an architect who is actively hands-on-keyboard building the very systems you design.

Your mandate is to take our self-serve API and turn it into a high-velocity acquisition engine. You will own the entire user lifecycle: from top-of-funnel developer awareness to activation, retention, and enterprise pipeline generation. You will partner directly with the founders to align our clinical models with aggressive market adoption.

What You'll Do:

  • Architect & Execute the PLG Motion: Design the end-to-end Product-Led Growth strategy and then build it yourself. You will personally set up the campaigns, write the messaging, and define how developers and clinical platforms discover, test, and integrate our Sona-2 API.
  • Hands-On Funnel & Analytics: Implement rigorous tracking, attribution, and analytics infrastructure. You will be in the tools daily, obsessing over CAC, LTV, activation rates, and time-to-first-API-call, iterating constantly to remove friction.
  • Developer & Clinical Marketing: Build the positioning, messaging, and campaigns necessary to win the trust of highly technical developers and deeply skeptical clinical buyers.
  • Build "Agentic" Growth: You won't just hire traditional human marketers; you will personally build and integrate AI and agentic workflows (content generation, automated outreach, autonomous campaign optimization) into our GTM motion to give us an asymmetric advantage.
  • Team Building: Act as our first growth hire. As we scale toward Series A, you will earn the right to recruit, hire, and manage a world-class growth team (including technical growth engineers and performance marketers).
  • Cross-Functional Execution: Work directly in the trenches with Product and Engineering to ensure the product roadmap supports viral loops, self-serve onboarding, and growth metrics.
The Culture & Expectations

We need to be radically transparent: this is not a lifestyle business, and this is not a standard 9-to-5.

  • In-Person Hustle: We are building this on the floor, cross-functionally, at rapid speed. We strongly prefer candidates who are in SF and want to be in the trenches with the founders.
  • The 24-Month Sprint: We are in a dead sprint toward our Series A. We expect a "fire in the belly" mentality, which translates to the 60-70 hour weeks necessary to build something massive from scratch.
  • Founder Mentality: You will be compensated with heavy, founder-aligned equity because we expect you to treat the company's cash runway and enterprise value as if it were your own.

Requirements

What You Bring to the Table
  • Zero-to-One Track Record: You have successfully built and scaled growth engines at an early-stage B2B SaaS, API, or developer-tools startup. You know what it takes to go from $0 to $1M+ in ARR.
  • Deep Analytical Rigor: You are highly quantitative. You don't guess; you run experiments, analyze the data, and scale what works. You are fluent and hands-on in SQL, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar analytics stacks.
  • T-Shaped Marketer & Builder: You have broad knowledge across all growth channels (SEO, Paid Media, Content, Community) but deep expertise in technical/developer marketing and PLG mechanics.
  • Architect AND Doer: You are senior enough to present growth models to the board, but you spend your actual days jumping into the CMS, writing copy, managing APIs, and manually optimizing campaigns. You don't let perfect get in the way of shipped.
  • Extreme Ownership: You thrive in ambiguity, execute with imperfect information, and don't need a predefined roadmap. You are here to build the roadmap.

Benefits

Compensation & The Upside
  • Competitive Base + Heavy Equity: We offer a competitive baseline salary to ensure your needs are met, but let's be clear: the real financial win here isn't a high W-2, it comes from the massive, early-stage equity package. You are being compensated like a founder to build true enterprise value.
  • Standard Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage to keep you and your family healthy.
  • Building at the Frontier: This is an incredibly rare opportunity to join a venture-backed startup that is building actual foundational models from the ground up. You aren't just slapping a UI over a thin OpenAI wrapper; you are working at the absolute bleeding edge of AI technology.
  • Category Creation in Healthcare: You aren't optimizing ad spend to sell more generic B2B widgets. You are helping pioneer a completely new category of clinical diagnostics, pushing life-saving voice biomarker technology into the real world.
Why This Matters

You aren't just selling another B2B SaaS tool. You are building the growth engine that will put frontier clinical voice biomarkers into the hands of developers and doctors who will use it to change patient outcomes.

If you are a strategic operator who still loves to get their hands dirty building from the ground up, and has the vision to scale it to a Series A and beyond, we want to talk to you.
