Quality Control Manager 
Location: Skyline Products, Colorado Springs, CO
Department: Quality Assurance
Reports To: Director of Manufacturing
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 annually, based on experience

Summary:
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and executing quality assurance and quality control activities for our traffic, price sign and sheet metal fabrication shop within an ISO 9001-certified environment. The role spans electronic, electro-mechanical, sheet metal fabrication and full assembly inspection — including PCB/PCBA, conformal coating, wiring, and LED display verification — as well as mechanical, environmental, and workmanship conformance to internal Skyline Products standards, NEMA requirements, and customer project specifications. The Quality / ISO Manager ensures every sign that leaves the facility is watertight, properly assembled, fully tested, correctly documented, complete and all in compliance with the applicable project description file.
What you’ll own & Drive:
Leadership
  • Safety: Lead by example, use your influence and communication for coaching and mentorship to help build a robust safety culture.
  • Strategic planning: translates high-level business goals into actionable, quantifiable team objectives and milestones.
  • Decisiveness: Analyze complex data objectively to make timely, informed decisions under pressure.
  • Problem-Solving: Anticipate roadblocks and proactively generate alternative solutions while employing team members to troubleshoot autonomously.
  • Talent Development: Identify employee potential, set clear expectations, and provide productive, timely feedback to support career growth.
  • Conflict Resolution & Emotional Intelligence: Mediate disagreements constructively while demonstrating self-awareness and compassion while allowing the team to navigate fluctuating priorities and organizational changes.

Electronics & PCB Quality
  • Oversee meticulous quality inspections for printed circuit boards (PCB), includes verification of conformal coating application and integrity of all components.
  • Verify PCB wiring when installed, including communication, power cables, connection and installation integrity.
  • Conduct full functional test and inspection of LED display to identify anomalies, including dead or discolored LEDs, conformal coating present on LED lenses, potential driver errors, and other sign defects.
  • Oversee environmental (thermal) testing of PCBs to confirm performance across specified operation conditions.

Mechanical & Environmental Quality
  • Ensure all assemblies conform to internal workmanship standards and match any specified direction provided by engineering team or customers.
  • Verify water penetration limitation and conformance to applicable NEMA standards, including protection against pooling water.
  • Confirm sign faces are watertight and face assemblies are properly aligned.
  • Perform and document wire pull testing, including inspections of all measuring and certified tools.

Final Inspection, Documentation & Shipment Readiness
  • Create and develop quality documentation, including inspection checklists, test procedures, work instructions and quality record keeping databases.
  • Verify all required documentation is present, accurate, and completed prior to ship release.
  • Confirm each unit conforms to the customer project description file and contract requirements before final sign-off.

Quality System & Calibration Management
  • Champion our Quality Management System (QMS), keeping us aligned with ISO 9001, UL, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Maintain and continually improve the quality processes in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements, including DMT/DFR reporting, CAPA and internal audit support.
  • Lead the charge on UL certifications (UL 94, UL 508A, etc.) for everything from components to finished products.
  • Manage instrumentation and tool calibration performed by independent contractors, including scheduling, records, and verification and calibration of all internal equipment and tools.
  • Maintain inspection records, test reports and traceability documentation.
  • Keep us audit-ready with proactive internal and external audit prep and execution.

What You Bring to the Table:
  • Demonstrated experience in a quality assurance/quality control leadership role within an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB inspection and conformal coating inspection and application.
  • 5+ years of Quality Assurance experience in electronics Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing, including 5+ years in a leadership role. 
  • Experience with ISO 9001 practices as well as understanding ISO 9001 standards.
  • Hands-on experience managing UL certifications (UL 94 flammability, UL 508A control panels, etc.).
  • Deep knowledge of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-A-600, IPC-CC-830) and familiarity with RoHS compliance.
  • Familiarity with NEMA enclosure standards and environmental/ingress protection requirements
  • Experience with mechanical inspection: alignment, fastener/hardware verification, pull testing, and thermal testing.
  • Experience managing calibration programs, including coordination with third-party calibration providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, write, and maintain quality documentation (procedures, work instructions, inspection forms, and test reports).
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Inspection of Precision sheet metal components and assemblies to detailed drawings or file.
  • Knowledge of the DMT / DFR process along with RMA processing.
  • Ability to perform Root Cause analysis and provide data to support findings.
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced production environment.
Qualifications:
  • IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 familiarity or certification.
  • ISO 9001 / UL internal auditor training or certification.
  • Experience in traffic signage, digital price signs, or outdoor electronic display manufacturing.
  • ERP and QMS software proficiency.
  • Experience in high-reliability electronics.
