Job description

Quality Engineer - New Product Introduction (NPI)
Job Purpose
The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and serving as a customer-facing quality representative throughout product development and production launch. This role leads and applies Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to ensure products and processes meet customer, regulatory, and internal requirements prior to release to production.
The Quality Engineer owns the development and execution of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) deliverables and partners cross-functionally to ensure a smooth transition from development into full-rate manufacturing.
This position reports to the Site Quality Manager.
This position is located in Hartford Wisconsin with NO Sponsorships or Relocation assistance at this time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(Other duties may be assigned)
New Product Introduction & Customer Quality
  • Lead quality activities for New Product Introduction (NPI) using APQP methodology.
  • Serve as the primary quality interface with customers during development, qualification, and product approval.
  • Plan, develop, and submit PPAP documentation, including:
    • PFMEA review and approval
    • Control Plan development
    • Process Flow Diagrams
    • First Article Inspection (FAI) reports
    • Dimensional layouts and inspection results
    • Material certifications
    • Paint and special process approvals
  • Support design and process validation activities (DV/PV) to ensure launch readiness.
Design, Process & Product Quality
  • Interpret product requirements from engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Review and provide feedback on drawings, calculations, specifications, and engineering changes.
  • Apply GD&T per applicable standards.
  • Define inspection requirements, sampling plans, acceptance criteria, and inspection methods.
  • Develop and support inspection plans, including incoming, in-process, and final inspection.
Corrective Action & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).
  • Prepare and submit customer corrective action responses (CARs).
  • Initiate and manage internal corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze quality and process data using SPC and statistical methods to drive improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cost of poor quality and improve process capability.
Quality Systems & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Participate in and support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory assessments.
  • Maintain awareness and application of applicable regulatory and certification standards, including but not limited to UL and ETL.
  • Ensure quality documentation and records are controlled, accurate, and compliant.

Marginal Job Functions
  • Maintain quality documentation in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide leadership to cross-functional project teams as required.
  • Coordinate customer reaction plans for nonconformities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through training and communication.

Qualifications
Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Working knowledge of APQP and PPAP methodologies.
  • Experience with PFMEA development/review and Control Plan creation.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Experience with internal auditing and ISO-based quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory or certification standards such as UL, ETL, or similar bodies.
  • Experience with SPC and data analysis techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable in a customer-facing role.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capability and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
  • 4-6 years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably supporting NPI activities.
  • Experience with PolyWorks or similar metrology software preferred.
  • Experience with fabrication, welded assemblies, or leak-critical products preferred.
  • Experience working within ISO-certified environments preferred.
