Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
This position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for monitoring and adjusting
the production process to ensure customer product specifications and company quality
standards are met.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Monitors the production process; accurately tests and interprets raw materials and work-inprocess
for adherence to customer specifications and company quality standards; and
promptly informs production of any adjustments needed.
2. Analyzes final products with all required tests for product approval and performs various in
process laboratory tests.
3. Ensures proper aseptic sample methods for microbiological samples.
4. Assists with handling samples submitted for microbial analyses, and order creation for the external
laboratory.
5. Calibrates lab instruments and equipment to specified standards and ensures lab cleanliness
according to GMP or GLP as required.
6. Organizes and maintains all required paperwork and documentation.
7. Ability to navigate DocBox and become proficient in SAP for results entry and release.
8. Performs assorted tasks assigned by the QC Lab Manager (e.g. Sample Preparation).
9. Previous experience in a GMP environment is beneficial but not required.
10. Maintains a clean supply of glassware to perform all required testing.
11. Monitors inventory levels of lab supplies and informs person responsible for ordering.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate
with occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Personal Protective Equipment is required at all
times. This includes a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, and gloves. A dust mask is required
when working with powdered media substances. Weekend work may be required.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field or at two years' experience in a laboratory environment
2. Ability to read, write and speak English.
3. Ability to read and comprehend documents such as standard operating procedures, equipment
manuals, and blend formulas.
4. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from colleagues in an
appropriate manner.
5. Ability to interpret testing results and follow SOP document for appropriate action.
6. Ability to operate a variety of lab equipment and instruments and a variety of office equipment.
7. Skilled in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel as well as database programs.
8. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as rate, ratio, percents and volume using metric
equivalents.
9. Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field or at least six months experience in a laboratory environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk
and hear. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 25
lbs. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and
toxic or caustic chemicals.
