Summer positions will run May-August 2027. Co-op and Internship positions may extend beyond the summer term depending on the requirements of the academic program and the business. These terms may be 4, 8, 12, or 16 months in length.

Your Opportunity at SECURE

As a Quality Control Chemist Student, you will gain hands-on laboratory experience while supporting the quality and consistency of SECURE's chemical products and services.

Working alongside our laboratory and operations teams, you will assist with quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities, including laboratory testing, chemical sampling, sample management, and equipment maintenance. You will also have the opportunity to support the preparation and testing of methodologies and contribute to routine and non-routine laboratory projects for both internal and external customers.

This is an opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a practical laboratory environment while developing your technical, analytical, and professional skills.

This role is based out of Blackfalds, Alberta, and requires reliable transportation to the Blending Plant.

The Team

The Specialty Chemicals Lab Team at SECURE is made up of chemists and technical specialists who support research and development, quality control, and custom product development. The team works closely with Operations to deliver chemical solutions that support drilling, waste treatment, and operational optimization.

Work Environment

This is a full-time student position based at SECURE's Blending Plant in Blackfalds, Alberta, working Monday to Friday. You'll work in a laboratory environment alongside Chemists, technical specialists, and Operations personnel, supporting quality control testing, sample analysis, and quality assurance activities.

The role involves regular use of laboratory equipment, handling chemical samples, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with laboratory procedures and safety standards. Success in this environment requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively while supporting product quality and customer requirements.

A Day in The Life
  • Perform laboratory testing on blend and bulk samples.
  • Support chemical sampling and the preparation, collection, filling, and labelling of sample requests.
  • Accurately enter and maintain QC laboratory testing results.
  • Complete filing and documentation for routine and non-routine laboratory work.
  • Work closely with Chemists and Operations to support laboratory and business requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining laboratory chemicals, inventory, and supplies.
  • Support the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with the preparation and testing of laboratory methodologies.
  • Participate in routine and non-routine project work based on your experience and skill level.
  • Follow SECURE's safety procedures and laboratory standards while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in a Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related post-secondary program.
  • A strong commitment to safety and the ability to consistently follow laboratory procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge of or exposure to analytical laboratory equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively while also taking ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Reliable transportation to SECURE's Blending Plant.
