The Role

The Quality Assurance/ Quality Control Engineer (QA/QC Engineer) is responsible for ensuring that piping systems, mechanical HVAC units, and components meet stringent quality and safety standards throughout the fabrication and installation process. This role involves conducting inspections and tests on materials, welds, joints, and finished piping systems to verify adherence to engineering specifications, industry codes, and regulatory requirements. The QA/QC Engineer will work closely with engineering, fabrication, and construction teams to identify and resolve quality issues, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with project specifications. Key duties include reviewing technical drawings, performing dimensional checks, assessing weld quality, scheduling 3rd party inspections, and maintaining detailed records of inspections and test results. This position requires an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification.

Responsibilities
  • Team Participation: Work with QA/QC management and other QC inspectors, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient and effective performance.
  • Actively participate in quality inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, industry codes, and safety standards.
  • Discuss any tasks you need assistance with or that you can assist others with, to ensure we work effectively and achieve a well-rounded outcome.
  • Certain inspections will require a two-person team for either work or safety reasons.
  • Coordinate inspections to ensure that both parties can complete their tasks efficiently.
  • Quality Inspection and Documentation:
  • Oversee and participate in inspections of mechanical systems, equipment, and installations to verify compliance with project specifications, industry codes, and safety standards.
  • Document deficiencies or deviations identified during inspections and work to address them appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and non-conformance reports.
  • Review and validate the results of tests and measurements performed during inspections.
  • Draft & maintain documentation and communication to the management and field teams in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the QA/QC manager, field crew, project management, shop managers and subcontractors to address quality-related issues and deviations from project plans and specifications.
  • Monitor adherence to safety regulations, contract requirements, and quality standards.
  • Assist in resolving quality-related issues by working closely with the project management team.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in project meetings to provide insights on quality-related matters.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and best practices within the inspection process.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and regulations relevant to mechanical systems.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Promote a safety-first culture on the construction site.
  • Report safety hazards or incidents and participate in investigations as needed.

The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $155,000. (The compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience).

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in quality control or inspection within the construction industry, particularly in mechanical systems.
  • W.S. Certified Welding Inspector certifications or training in quality control, construction inspection, or a related field are a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction codes, standards, and regulations, pipe/line drawings.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools, instruments, software such as procore, trimble, Microsoft word/excel, Bluebeam, Adobe.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and provide guidance to the QC team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to quality assurance.
Education

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related field experience.
