Job description

Isola, an industry leader in global materials sciences whose mission is to improve life by enabling innovation in electronic products, is hiring a 2nd Shift QA Lab Technician at our Chandler, AZ Location. 

SCHEDULE: 2:00pm - 10:30pm Monday to Friday (Overtime, extended shift and weekend work required) 

Compensation: $22.25 per hour (plus a $1.25/per hour shift differential)

THE ROLE 

The QA Lab Technician supports the Quality department in providing ongoing conformance testing of materials to validate production processes and determine product disposition. This includes, but may not be limited to: batch testing of raw materials, resin compounded batches, prepreg, and laminate as dictated by production schedules, and as requested by internal or external customers. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Perform visual inspection and testing of laminates in conformance with existing procedures, methods and requirements and recommending disposition of the tested product.  
  • Work with etching equipment and chemicals to etch copper from laminates, in preparation for test and inspection. 
  • Perform testing of prepreg (aged material, customer retests, and requests from operations). 
  • Manage storage of sample retains per sample retain retention policy. 
  • Perform weekly and semi-annual preventive maintenance (PM) of the etching equipment. 
  • Basic troubleshooting of etcher or scrubber equipment. 
  • Perform weekly preventative maintenance (PM) on the exhaust scrubbing equipment. 
  • Handle chemical drums and waste totes using a forklift.  Follow proper storage for Hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste.  Load and unload trucks with waste and chemicals. 
  • Possess a working knowledge of IPC laminate and prepeg standards such as IPC 4101 and IPC 4103 as related to inspection, testing and requirements of laminates and prepregs 
  • Perform quality audits on customer orders prior to final packaging of material 
  • Processes data through knowledge of all forms and logs used for recording the disposition of material through the quality lab.  Including electronic logs, such as MS Excel Spreadsheets. 
  • Enter Quality data, including but not limited to results of inspection and tests into SAP. 
  • Place non-conforming material on hold using the defined system(s) and quarantine the material 
  • Perform rudimentary failure analysis of non-conforming products 
  • Coordinate the efficient flow of testing/inspection with the shipping and finishing departments to help ensure On-Time-Delivery of laminate shipments. 
  • Perform internal audits as required.   
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all paperwork. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned work areas including equipment, tools, and work surfaces. 
  • Perform filing and document retrieval as needed. 
  • Participate in training, continuous improvements events, special projects and other duties as assigned.  
  • Use Lean/Six Sigma Methodologies to improve the process. 
  • Assist other operators to ensure timely shipment of product. 
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures in accordance with policies and local, state, and federal laws.  Adhere to all quality standards per Isola policy 

INTERNAL ELIGIBILITY 

  • Completion of 90-day new hire/newly transferred probationary period  
  • No more than 3 attendance points 
  • Basic Microsoft Excel experience required 
  • Prior Quality experience preferred  
  • Prior SAP experience preferred 
  • Forklift Experience preferred  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Candidates must have strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and verbal communication is essential. 

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS 

  • In this role you maybe be required to stand up to 10 hours per shift and with frequent bending, reaching, and grasping. You will also need to lift, pull or push up to 50 pounds.
