Job description

Location: Hawthorne, NJ - Remote/Hybrid Flexibility

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Solar Project Engineer to join our growing team. This role is responsible for supporting the engineering design, coordination, and technical execution of solar PV projects ranging from small to large commercial multi-megawatt systems. This role works closely with senior engineers, EORs, project managers, and construction teams to ensure accurate designs, compliant documentation, and smooth project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering & Design

  • Support the design of rooftop and ground-mount PV systems (fixed-tilt and single-axis tracker).
  • Prepare layouts, electrical drawings, and models using AutoCAD, PVsyst, PVcase, and Helioscope.
  • Assist with energy modeling, system optimization, and ASTM-based performance testing.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables with EORs and contribute to EPC-driven value engineering efforts.

Project Support

  • Assist with feasibility reviews, preliminary engineering, and permitting packages.
  • Support PMs with tracking schedules, submittals, engineering deliverables, and conducting page-turn meetings.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including site visits and commissioning.
  • Support project close-out documentation and turnover packages.

Compliance & QA

  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, ASCE, UL, utility requirements, and client technical specifications.
  • Review shop drawings, vendor submittals, and engineering documentation.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, field issue resolution, and quality checks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering.
  • 3–6 years of experience in solar PV engineering or system design, with exposure to multidisciplinary coordination (electrical, structural, civil, mechanical).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and PV modeling tools (PVsyst, PVcase, Helioscope).
  • Strong understanding of electrical, structural, and civil principles related to PV systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, utility interconnection standards, and permitting processes.
  • Understanding and application of EPC value engineering principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to stay on track, manage multiple tasks, and maintain clear documentation.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, engineers of record, and contractors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with BESS, microgrids, or SCADA systems.
  • EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.
