Purchasing Assistant

Upper Marlboro, MD | Full-Time, In-Office | $60,000-$75,000

JCM Associates is one of the Mid-Atlantic's leading commercial HVAC and plumbing contractors, based in Upper Marlboro, MD, just 20 minutes from DC. We've delivered mechanical systems for landmark projects including The Wharf (Phases 1 & 2), CFG Bank Arena, University of Maryland's new residence halls, The Anthem, and Catholic University.

About This Role

The Purchasing Assistant will work with the Purchasing Manager to support critical field operations by sourcing all materials for our 15+ active construction projects. The Purchasing Assistant will:

  • Learn and know the common materials we buy. You will become an expert on plumbing and mechanical components.
  • Build relationships with key suppliers and vendors and know who the right partners are for a given order. You will know who the great suppliers are and who the right vendors are for different orders.
  • Receive and process foreman orders daily. You will support the field teams with prompt fulfillment of their materials needs.
  • Receive and process bulk orders, and review them for accuracy and completeness. You will learn how to review an large purchases and find errors and opportunities for savings.
  • Use our accounting system to manage, monitor, and maintain the proper purchasing documentation history. You will become an expert at using our software systems for organized purchasing and record keeping.

This role provides an opportunity to train and learn how to run a commercial purchasing department. Long term, a great candidate can grow substantially in this role with upside to become a full purchasing manager.

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to pass drug screening/background check.
  • Overall admin/office support when needed in other departments.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Organization skills and prioritizing tasks to make sure deadlines are met is a must.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Experience in commercial construction, plumbing and mechanical contracting, or construction material purchasing is preferred, but entry level candidates motivated to learn the industry are highly encouraged to apply.
