Job description

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Operations. This position is responsible for implementing project designs and improvements to existing products in accordance with department procedures, working under the project team plans. The Design Engineer researches and evaluates products, parts or processes for cost efficiency and reliability, ensures the fit, form and function of the existing design or new products and works with other departments in order to ensure production and packaging of final product in accordance with customer specification and procedures.


  • Designs, models, and tests prototypes for products
  • Conducts research and creates design proposals for projects
  • Creates concepts, performance, and production criteria
  • Identifies and selects materials needed for production
  • Produces final hand drawings and specifications
  • Create parts lists and ensure value engineering practices are provided for the designs. Make samples of working models for demonstration
  • Participates in planning marketing initiatives for product
  • Negotiates appropriate production processes
  • Evaluates products and processes for cost efficiency and reliability
  • Works with the Engineering team and other departments to ensure production schedule is met
  • Uses computer-aided design (CAD) to create concepts, and layout pumps and systems
  • Follows department processes and procedures and provide feedback and ideas for improvement This list is not all-encompassing and tasks not mentioned here may be required

  • Experience with Solid Works and GD&T
  • Experience analyzing engineering sketches, specifications, related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts
  • Ability to make equipment layouts and perform fundamental engineering calculations
  • At least five years of design engineering experience
  • Experience planning and formulating design engineering program and works with project team staff according to project requirements
  • Ability to review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite

Work Environmental and Physical Demands:

  • In order to perform the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. may be necessary.
  • Overtime may be necessary as the workload dictates. This may include week days, weekends, nights and/or holidays.
  • Job will generally be performed in an office environment, but may require travel to a Client's office, production facility or industrial/construction job site. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.

Environmental Safety Requirements

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field is required
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and FEA
  • Five years of experience in a similar role is required
