Job description

Pet Health Advisor (Veterinary Experience Required)

Do you love veterinary medicine but wish you had more time to educate clients instead of rushing through appointments? Are you passionate about nutrition, herbs, and helping pet owners make informed decisions? If so, you might be exactly who we're looking for.

Location: Geneva, IL
Company: Pug & Hound Pet Apothecary

At Pug & Hound, we do things differently.

We're not your typical pet store, and we're not your typical veterinary clinic. We bridge the gap between conventional veterinary medicine and holistic wellness, helping pet owners make informed decisions through education, compassion, and evidence-informed natural health.

We're looking for someone who shares our passion for helping pets thrive while understanding the important role conventional medicine plays. Around here, we call our sales associates Pet Health Advisors because education—not sales—is what we do.

What You'll Do

Every day is different! You might be:

  • Educating pet parents about nutrition, supplements, and holistic wellness
  • Helping customers understand common diseases and conventional treatment options
  • Recommending appropriate products based on each pet's individual needs
  • Receiving and putting away inventory
  • Stocking shelves and maintaining an organized sales floor
  • Assisting with inventory counts
  • Keeping the store clean and inviting
  • Supporting our veterinary services and other team members as needed
  • Jumping in wherever help is needed—because we're a team
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate:

  • Has experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician
  • Has a solid understanding of common canine and feline diseases and conventional veterinary treatments
  • Is passionate about holistic health, nutrition, and natural wellness
  • Loves learning—we provide extensive training to deepen your knowledge of holistic medicine
  • Enjoys educating others rather than simply selling products
  • Is friendly, approachable, and genuinely enjoys helping people
  • Is dependable, punctual, and takes pride in doing things well
  • Works well independently and as part of a close-knit team
  • Doesn't mind rolling up their sleeves to clean, stock shelves, organize inventory, or tackle whatever needs to be done
Our Culture

We're serious about pets—but not about ourselves.

Our team is full of sarcasm, laughs, and good-natured teasing. We work hard, support each other, and genuinely enjoy coming to work every day. The right person has a good sense of humor, can laugh along with us, and understands that while we keep things lighthearted, we take our responsibility to pets and their families very seriously.

What You'll Gain
  • Extensive training in holistic pet health and herbal medicine
  • The opportunity to learn from experienced holistic practitioners
  • A supportive, collaborative team environment
  • Meaningful work helping pets live healthier lives
  • The chance to grow with one of the country's most unique pet wellness businesses

If you're passionate about both conventional veterinary medicine and holistic wellness—and you're excited to keep learning—we'd love to meet you.

Please send your resume along with a brief note telling us why you're interested in joining the Pug & Hound team.
