The Flight Paramedic (EDIC) provides advanced pre-hospital emergency care and in-flight patient management for aeromedical evacuation and medical transport operations. Responsibilities include patient assessment, stabilization, emergency interventions, and coordination with flight crews to ensure safe and effective patient care during transport.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced life support (ALS) and emergency care during patient transport by air.
• Conduct rapid assessment, stabilization, and monitoring of patients with medical, trauma, or surgical emergencies.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and other critical interventions per protocols and scope of practice.
• Operate and monitor advanced medical equipment including ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and airway management devices.
• Coordinate patient care with flight crew, medical team, and receiving facilities to ensure safe and effective transport.
• Document patient care, interventions, and transport details accurately in electronic or written medical records.
• Respond to in-flight and pre-flight emergencies, including cardiac arrest, trauma, respiratory compromise, and other critical events.
• Maintain medical readiness of equipment, medications, and supplies for flight operations.
• Participate in training, drills, and continuous professional development to maintain flight and medical competencies.
• On-call 24/7
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
• Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited paramedic program with national or state certification (NREMT-P or equivalent).
• Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a licensed paramedic, including experience in advanced life support (ALS) and critical care transport preferred.
• Licensure / Registration:
  • Current, active, unrestricted paramedic license or certification in at least one U.S. state, DC, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
• Certification:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Airway and in-flight emergency training required (e.g., Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent).
• Additional Requirements:
  • Maintain all licensure and certifications (BCLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS) for the duration of employment.
  • Meet all medical, credentialing, aviation safety, and deployment requirements.
  • Ability to function independently and as part of an aeromedical team in deployed or austere environments.
• Skills:
  • Proficient in advanced pre-hospital emergency care and aeromedical transport procedures.
  • Knowledge of trauma, medical, and surgical emergencies and appropriate interventions.
  • Ability to operate specialized medical and aviation equipment safely.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills under high-stress conditions.
  • Ability to perform in austere, deployed, and high-altitude environments.
  • Familiarity with medical documentation and regulatory compliance for aeromedical operations.
• Working Conditions:
  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 85 degrees in the summer months).
  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level.
  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
  • The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
• Physical Requirements:
  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
