About the Position
Senior Publisher – responsible for managing a portfolio of journals primarily focused on dentistry within Elsevier’s Health and Medical Sciences group.
Key Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management and Development
- Develop portfolio strategy in collaboration with external editorial teams and society partners.
- Ensure alignment with department and organization strategies.
- Work with editors, authors, editorial boards, reviewers, and the academic community to ensure sufficient copy flow of high‑quality manuscripts.
- Negotiate and manage contractual relationships with journal editors and learned societies.
- Continuously maintain portfolio reflecting developments in the marketplace.
- Meet portfolio‑related objectives: content growth, market share, editorial speeds, and author/editor satisfaction.
- Manage editorial fees budget and provide input to pricing processes.
- Relationship Management and Networking
- Establish and maintain contacts with external stakeholders: editors, authors, society representatives, university leadership, industry, etc.
- Coordinate internal stakeholders: editorial, production, publishing, marketing and technology teams.
- Business Development
- Identify and map market needs and business opportunities.
- Develop and acquire new products and services, including society journals where feasible.
Requirements
- University degree plus a minimum of five years of journal publishing experience or equivalent industry experience.
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
- Excellent communication skills, proactive, positive, creative, solution/results oriented.
- Strong networking, negotiation, collaboration, commercial awareness and business acumen.
- Experience in data gathering, interpretation, and presentation.
- Understanding of the scientific research ecosystem, particularly in health and medical contexts.
- Willing and able to travel internationally.

Location & Compensation
Primary location: New York, NY. Base pay range: $94,700 – $157,500. Eligible for an annual incentive bonus. If performed in NLD Amsterdam (Radarweg), base pay is €71,700 – €119,600.
