What is a publisher attorney?

A Publisher Attorney is a legal professional who specializes in representing publishers, authors, and media companies in matters such as contracts, intellectual property rights, copyright, licensing, and defamation. They provide legal advice on publishing agreements, review manuscripts for potential legal issues, and help ensure compliance with publishing laws and regulations. Publisher Attorneys may also handle disputes and litigation related to published works, protecting their clients' interests throughout the publishing process.

What are some of the main challenges publisher attorneys face when negotiating publishing contracts?

Publisher Attorneys often encounter challenges related to balancing the interests of their publishing clients with those of authors, agents, and third parties. They must ensure that contracts are legally sound, protect intellectual property rights, and address complex royalty structures and subsidiary rights. Navigating rapidly changing digital distribution terms and emerging formats can also present hurdles. Strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and staying up to date with industry trends are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a publisher attorney, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Publisher Attorney, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, a license to practice law, and expertise in intellectual property, contract, and media law. Familiarity with legal research databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis, as well as copyright management systems, is typically required. Strong negotiation, analytical thinking, and communication skills help you effectively advise publishing clients and resolve disputes. These skills are crucial to protecting clients' legal interests, ensuring compliance, and facilitating successful publishing transactions.

Description:

Are You Looking For A Job?

We are looking for a Long-Form Legal Content Writer.

About Us

Levin Papantonio is a leading plaintiff’s law firm specializing in single event and mass tort plaintiff’s litigation. We deliver client-centered legal services and thought leadership that builds trust and clarifies complex legal issues. We’re hiring a Long-Form Content Creator to produce well-researched, engaging articles and guides that educate prospective clients, support SEO goals, and reinforce our firm’s expertise.

About the Role

The Long-Form Content Creator will research, outline, write, and revise in-depth legal content involving litigations and other activities to highlight the firm and its accomplishments. You will translate complex legal topics into clear, audience-focused content while aligning with SEO strategy, editorial standards, and regulatory considerations for legal marketing.

What We're Looking For

· A writer who can produce clear, accurate, and engaging long-form content.

· Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and who can function well as part of a collaborative team.

· A strategic communicator who can support the firm’s message across multiple channels.

· A detail-oriented editor who can manage both recurring publication cycles and one-off deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

· Produce long-form articles, guides, and downloadable content that are accurate, authoritative, and client-friendly.

· Prepare press releases related to case filings, verdicts, settlements, and firm announcements.

· Draft presentations and video scripts that are engaging and connect with audiences.

· Serve as editor of the firm’s twice-annual magazine distributed at our industry conferences.

· Develop outlines, summaries, and talking points for the short-form content/marketing team to allow long-form content to

guide and be repurposed for social media, blog posts, and video scripts.

· Conduct primary and secondary research: read case law summaries, firm materials, interviews with attorneys, and reputable

secondary sources.

· Collaborate with attorneys, marketing, and SEO specialists to develop content briefs and outlines.

· Optimize content for SEO (keywords, headings, meta descriptions, internal linking) while maintaining natural readability.

· Ensure legal and ethical compliance in marketing communications (no unauthorized practice of law, proper disclaimers).

· Edit and proofread content for clarity, tone, grammar, and accuracy.

· Maintain an editorial calendar, meet deadlines, and incorporate feedback from attorneys and marketing leads.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay and performance based annual bonus.
  • Flexible work arrangements and supportive, collaborative team.
  • Opportunity to build authoritative content that drives client engagement and firm growth.
  • Professional development and mentorship from practicing attorneys and marketing leaders.
  • 401(k)/Profit Sharing
  • Health, Dental, Vision
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Group Term Life insurance (GTL)/Voluntary Term Life insurance (VTL)
  • Long Term Disability (LTD)
  • Annual Pay Increase (discretionary)
  • Year End Bonus (discretionary)
Requirements:

· Excellent research skills and ability to interpret legal topics and synthesize information for non-lawyer audiences.

· Strong command of grammar, tone, and storytelling for professional services marketing.

· Familiarity with SEO best practices and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).

· Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Prior experience working with law firms, attorneys, or in legal publishing.

· Basic understanding of legal terminology and citation conventions.

· Experience with content briefs, keyword research tools, and analytics.

· Basic knowledge of accessibility and inclusive language practices.
