Job description

Title: General Manager

Location: Tampa Bay, FL


Position Overview

The Tampa Bay Times is seeking a strategic and growth-oriented General Manager to lead the development, performance, and expansion of our community-based publication portfolio. This role will oversee key print and digital products including the Beacon community publications, tbt* weekly, the quarterly Senior Living publication, and all affiliated digital assets.


Reporting directly to the VP of Advertising, this individual will play a critical role in aligning product strategy with revenue growth, supporting sales initiatives, and driving audience engagement across diverse local markets. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on both editorial reach and advertising performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the vision, positioning, and ongoing development of Beacon community publications, tbt* weekly, and Senior Living products
  • Oversee the integration and performance of all associated digital assets 
  • Identifyopportunities to evolve products based on audience insights, advertiser needs, and market trends 
  • Partner closely with sales leadership and teams to position and promote the product portfolio 
  • Develop new revenue-generating opportunities, including special sections, themed content, and community events 
  • Support the creation of sales materials, packaging, and go-to-market strategies 
  • Contribute as Subject Matter Expert on strategic, audience-based presentations
  • Play a key leadership role in the Beacon 5-year expansion strategy, beginning with the launch into Manatee County in 2026 
  • Evaluate new markets, audience segments, and distribution strategies to drive growth 
  • Identifyand test innovative media products and offerings 
  • Serve as a public-facing ambassador for the publications at networking events, community functions, and industry gatherings 
  • Build relationships with local stakeholders, business leaders, and community organizations 
  • Work closely with editorial, marketing, design, and digital teams to ensure product excellence and consistency 
  • Align internal stakeholders around product priorities, timelines, and performance goals 

Qualifications

  • 3–7+ years of experience in product management, media, publishing, or a related field 
  • Strong understanding of print and digital media ecosystems 
  • Proven ability to collaborate with sales teams and contribute to revenue growth 
  • Experience launching or scaling products, markets, or initiatives 
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for local journalism and community engagement 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in local media, community publications, or regional advertising markets 
  • Familiarity with event-based revenue models and sponsored content 
  • Background in audience analytics, CRM tools, or digital product platforms
