Job description

Job Title: Public Area Attendant

Department: Housekeeping

Reports To: Director of Housekeeping

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY:

The Public Area attendant maintains all lobbies and public facilities in clean and orderly condition. The Public Area Attendant promotes a positive image of the property among guests and must be pleasant, honest, and friendly and must also be able to address guest requests and problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clean Offices, lobby, and restrooms.
  • Sweep carpets.
  • Empty ashtrays and urns.
  • Polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Vacuum and polish elevators.
  • Keep the front of the hotel free from trash to prevent insect breeding, limiting customers visiting and booking hotel rooms.
  • Clean rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture using a vacuum cleaner, broom, and shampoo machine.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub floors.
  • Wipe the dust and polish metal surfaces.
  • Clean and maintain all cleaning equipment daily.
  • To assist Guests in Public Areas when required.
  • Post caution signs as and when required.
  • Ensure the highest level of customer service by anticipating and responding quickly to visitors' requests.
  • Report all maintenance and repair issues to management.
  • Ensure all areas of the hotel are secure and safe.
  • Perform any other duties requested by Supervisor/ Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Public Area Attendant or Janitorial Services in a Hotel or similar role.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy objects such as furniture and luggage.
  • Hands-on experience with cleaning and maintenance tasks for large organizations.
  • Ability to use industrial cleaning equipment and products.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage, and disposal methods.
  • Stamina to handle the physical demands of the job.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.

EDUCATION:

  • High School degree, GED or Equivalent.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills in English and Spanish Preferred (communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests, associates, and external partners).
  • Ability to work well under pressure and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
